Still not sure if I feel like crap because of the Miyarisin or if I've got some virus or something (always hard to tell) but I have a question.

When would the effects (good or bad) of a probiotic be expected to peak? A couple of hours after you take it? Longer? Depends on bowel transit time? Doesn't peak and the effects last until it comes out the other end ?

I'm wondering if I can time the dose so I can sleep through the worst of it.

My guess would be around 4 hours. It needs some time to start fermenting and producing SCFAs.

Did anybody here start taking their C. Butyricum WITHOUT adding resistant starch to their lives first, and WITHOUT adding resistant starch to their lives on the same day that they first began the C. Butyricum?

(By 'resistant starch' for the sake of this question I mean uncooked potato starch, or cooked and cooled potatoes or cooked and cooled rice, or green plantains or green bananas)

If someone happened to start out in this manner, please let us know how it is going. (Even if you then later started using resistant starch)

Not me.

It is hard for me to keep up on threads because of other things, how many have had positive effects with this probiotic?

@Gondwanaland Boswellia Serrata seems to lower NF-kB.
I took it earlier this year and got some effect from it.
Note that it is not water soluble and will harden like rock when compacted. Meaning some brands will not release when you take them - you have to make sure the powder is free moving in the capsule before taking it.

It would be great to have a poll on that, with some well thought-out response options (relating to how long people have been on it, whether they had ill effects at first, dose, etc.).

What about this for a poll?

Subject line: After two weeks or more, what has been your experience with the probiotic C. Butyricum (Miyarisan)?

If 0 is dead and 100 is cured, how many percentage points have you moved up the scale? For example, if you started at 30% and moved up to 35%, you've improved by 5%. [I'll provide response options in 5% increments if the poll software will let me]

If you'd also like to post below to give your experience with C. Butyricum, that would be great. Please state:

1. What dose you've been on

2. How long you've been on it

3. Which symptoms have improved

4. Whether you had ill-effects at first.

BTW, don't start answering those questions here! I'm looking for feedback on whether those are good questions, and if they are, I'll start up a proper poll.

I am not a great fan of polls in general - there has to be a good number of users for the information to be meaningful. It is also hard to make questions that will fit everyone. But if you feel this will provide some insights, go for it @Sasha.

I'm intending to tag everyone who has said that they've been trying it. I think that's something over a dozen now, which is a good initial sample - as long as all or most respond. It's response bias that would be a problem.

With what kind of inflammation does it help?

Of the cytokine kind.

I don't tolerate it well. It is a bit like citrate, gives me tinnitus. BTW whenever there is too much uric acid there is tinnitus for me. I have been taking grape juice today to cure my uric acid hangover :ill: Although when I tried Grape Seed Extract I was titrating down my SSRI, so I might try it again now.

Yesterday it took another bicarb bath (2 evenings in a row) with extra bicarb and took a capsule of my regular probx but with increased reuterii and woke up 80% better today

BTW how do you react to copper?

Damn, I forgot you couldn't tolerate grape seed extract. Grape juice is a good idea. My mother in law gets great benefit from juice alone for her joints but I got her the capsules instead because she wanted to avoid the sugar in the juice. Have you tried cherry extract or juice? It definitely was mobilising something when I took it.

Copper? No idea, never tried it.

Well, that was quick - I took my C. Butyricum tab at 6:30 pm and within 30 minutes I was feeling like crap again and have been mostly lying down since.

Weird how I'm going from one extreme to another! I wonder what state I'll be in tomorrow morning.

I'm thinking I should cut down to half a tab and take it later in the evening.

@Sasha yes maybe just take a fraction of a tablet until you can take that without uncomfortable adverse effects.
The first set of effects I noticed on 1 tab passed for me in a week. In my case that was extra tiredness by late afternoon/early evening, slightly swollen glands (much less so than on big doses of resistant starch) and intermittent gut pain.

I'll answer the poll as I've been taking Miyarisan for two weeks today.
My husband started taking 1 tab today too. He's not unwell but he likes the sound of the positive effects I'm noticing. :) ...In particular waking with a more refreshed feeling, particularly in my head. This seems to relate in some way to sinuses and eyes.

Not sure if this study answers 'when do the effects peak', but it does show how quickly C. Butyricum starts to grow in different parts of the gut after swallowing it, and how many days it lives:
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/9343816
"Vegetative cells of C. butyricum were first detected in the distal small intestine after 2 hr, and vegetative growth was observed from the cecum to the colon 5 hr after administration. Dead vegetative cells were detected 9 hr after administration, and C. butyricum cells were not detected in the intestine after 3 days."

@Sasha

I started eating Cold potatoes but i haven't tried Miyarisan yet. I will post here after taking it for some days.

The first couple of days that i tried cold potatoes i had flatulence but the third day i felt fine. Unfortunately i haven't kept a strict schedule of ingesting RS every single day, hopefully i will do that with Miyarisan.
