I just wanted to add to this thread that you can have chronic hypovolemia without necessarily feeling thirsty or having salt cravings.
This is because the body has decided to set the blood volume lower than it should be, and it then thinks that level is correct and all is well. So the thirst impulse may not be triggered as it would in a healthy person who was temporarily hypovolemic.
At least, that is what I gathered from Dr Satish Raj’s lectures/research on hypovolemia in POTS. Whether that translates to ME/CFS or not, I guess we don’t know but will hopefully find out soon when researchers get hold of the new blood volume machines that are coming out.
