I've got to get to the other side of this detoxing somehow.
@bad1080,
@Rufous McKinney - I used to have serious problems with detoxing. I would detox at the drop of a hat - anything that had "cleansing" properties (apple cider vinegar, cayenne) would make me feel sick. Chlorella wiped me out, and had a very strong detox reaction to infrared sauna.
I credit my chiropractor who does muscle testing for getting me out of this hole. In 2003 he found my liver was quite toxic with chemical solvents from a job I'd had when I was 19. I did a liver detox under his supervision. At the time I was having trouble eating before noon, just felt sick all the time ( in addition to PEM etc.) It was bad. The liver detox took 30 days, it was pretty rough and at the end of it my digestion was very much improved. I also learned I needed to take betaine HCL with pepsin regularly and I also added in milk thistle at this time. Prior to then one glass of wine would make me sick for an entire day and 2 glasses would make me sick for 3 days. Now I can drink like a "normal" person.
The chiro did all this using muscle testing.
However, for many years after this, I'd still react quite strongly to lots of things (ACV, cayenne, I can't remember everything which hit me). A detox foot bath wiped me out for 3 days. Chlorella caused a severe detox reaction - I think I was "retoxing" - toxins would get mobilized by chlorella and then just circulate in my system and get redeposited.
In 2014 or 2016 (?) I took some gelatin at night hoping to help with sleep. Gelatin is very high in glycine and I'd read that glycine could help with sleep. Well, it knocked me for a loop - had a severe detox reaction, got very spacey (got lost going to my sister's house), very tired, digestion upset, all the usual stuff. I figured well, I can't take that again! But am v. glad I asked my chiro about it - he did his testing and found that glycine actually was good for me but in a much smaller dose. So I took glycine in v. small doses, gradually increasing as tolerated for 6 months, and at the end of 6 months I no longer reacted badly to it. I also did the same thing with inositol and glutamine at the same time - both caused detoxing but much milder than the glycine.
I read about glycine during all of this and learned that it was important for Phase II liver detoxification and inositol and glutamine were as well, to a lesser extent. I've taken glycine ever since at night because I do think it helps a bit with sleep, and muscle testing indicates it's good for me. Without the muscle testing, I never would have touched glycine again because of my severe detox reaction.
And I no longer react to everything on the planet. The last time I had a detox reaction was a few years after all that when I had a new (vinyl) bathroom floor put in and that made me feel a bit sick for about 3 days and that was it. I really don't react to anything any more, and prior to all this it had been a weekly occurrence. I wasn't always sure what I was reacting to but it was always something.
Without the chiropractor and muscle testing I never would have been able to figure this out. I still have ME/CFS of course and crash regularly when overdoing things, but at least detoxing is one awful symptom I no longer have to deal with.
