Hi,

has anyone experience with non invasive vagus nerve stimulation?

What is your hunch on this product?
(forget the price for a moment)

https://www.parasym.co/order-page.html

Is there anything that could be problematic about this treatment for (very) severe patients?

One thing that bugs me is that there was quite a big study with a negative outcome (people got worse) for Clonidine in me/cfs patients, this medication should indirectly activate the parasympathetic nervous system, similar to such a device?

Thank you.

There are several threads about Transcutaneous Vagal Nerve Stimulation. I would recommend searching and reading them. This device is nothing special and way over priced. It's a TENS machine with an ear clip, which you can buy other places for <~$25. Several studies showing positive results with tVNS mention use of TENS units (even specific models) and show images of how they used the ear clips.

Not sure about possible negative effects. But one study showed using the device on the right ear can cause heart problems.

Having dysautonomia/PoTS, ME, Neurological vision complications, and C-PTSD, I decided to try a Non-invasive vagus nerve stimulation device.

This article speaks of such devices in connection to covid and people who had detrimental developments from vaccinations, mainly the development of PoTS.

this is the disposable one (which seems goofy):

this looks interesting and practical beings hands-off:

military one:

one for the ears:

My wife and I (she has Parkinson’s) ordered the Pulsetto one. I’m interested to try it and see if I notice any changes at all over time. If I do, or if I don’t, I will share here.

Vagal nerve stimulation can also be done by applying ultrasound to your spleen. There is research to back this up. You can buy simple ultrasounds on Amazon for ~$120.

Hey @junkcrap50 -- Any chance you could provide a link to an Amazon product that matches your description? Thanks! -- BTW, I always appreciate your interesting and informative posts.
Sorry, more like $150 not $120. I got my info from this person who has tweeted about it and then read about it: https://twitter.com/search?q=@chydorina ultrasound&src=typed_query

She has linked to this one: https://www.tenspros.com/us-pro-2000-portable-ultrasound-du3035.html

But if you search Amazon for "Therapeutic Ultrasound" (https://www.amazon.com/s?k=therapeu...fix=therapeuultrasound,aps,212&ref=nb_sb_noss) you'll see several. 1 MHz will penetrate deeper & seems more appropriate. It is not a sonogram type of ultrasound. I wasn't clear about that.

Are you sure that stimulation is really the way you want to go?

I have a good friend who has been going to The Cleveland Clinic for the past 2 years because of non-stop coughing, throat irritation and choking. This began after a surgery in the neck area.

At first she was fine, but then gradually these other matters began. At first she had injections of gabapentin right into her throat; now she's having botox. To be honest, she sounds terribly hoarse when she phones me. She can't talk for long without the constant coughing starting. She's depressed as a result of it all. I don't blame her as this has been going on for 3-4 years total.

The doctors at the Clinic figure her vagus nerve is the problem, but she has never once mentioned stimulating of the nerve. As a matter of fact, it would take a lot of convincing for me to believe that anything could help except letting it heal on its own. Perhaps outside interventions....cold, heat therapies but not anything similar to a tens unit. However, I'm sure you have your reasons for stimulating it. By the way, the ear has a lot of acupressure points to the vagus nerve. Hope this helps, at least a bit. Yours, Lenora

Hi @lenora -- If you read about three paragraphs at this link starting with "Velma is a seventy-two...", it dramatically illustrates how some castor oil therapy alone successfully addressed a 23-year long history of intense intestinal discomfort following a surgery. It sounds like your friend is pretty desperate to find some kind of relief. This is something that would be inexpensive and almost certainly no side effects.

I recently started regularly putting castor oil directly on my neck (for thyroid) without doing any kind of "pack". It's really much easier, and purportedly just as effective as castor oil packs, which can be messy and time consuming. Anyway, thought I'd pass this along in case your friend had any interest. I've read that castor oil is literally unrivaled in its ability to balance out and harmonize our entire neurological system.

Hello @Wayne. Yes, there has been a lot of press about castor oil recently.

Years ago, I read just one of Edgar Cayce's books about castor oil packs and the many patients he helped. Of course not just one book is going to help you understand the gift that Cayce had. I'd like to read (listen to) his story and find out more about him.

Of course he has always been in the background, but he has once again exploded into public knowledge in the past 2 years or so. I haven't mentioned him to my friend, but that's a very good thought.

Interesting to know that you've had luck with applying oil directly to your thyroid without the use of a pack, and feel that you've had good results. I have castor oil here and should try it myself. I'll certainly mention it to her. For those of you who are interested, reading about the vagus nerve is quite interesting. If malfunctioning, it can certainly make life much harder. Yours, Lenora
