Types of energy (per Ms. Stevens):

Bodily functions
Physical Exertion
Mental
Emotional
Social
Spiritual

Staci says to think of these in combination because that will take more energy. When participating on the forums, I believe we're using bodily functions (always), mental energy, and social. At times, I would say emotional, too. She says weddings and funerals use all of these.

Staci says to manage these energy uses and gain control. Think about them, plan, and pay attention, she says. Could be a useful tool to improve our quality of life and help us think we're more in control.
I hope this helps.

HI Brown Eyed Girl, Are you referring to the Staci Stevens of Workwell? Wow, If you got to work with her in person that is great. I worked with one of her assistants, Meg who is great. It was all over the phone and through email. It makes a lot of sense that there are different kinds of energy threats. I know I feel them all firing off but that program helped me sort it out so that I could better articulate what I was feeling. I wish I could have worked with Staci in person. I am sure she is a great resource for you. I'm sure you can learn so much more from her in person. The pulse moniter and the controlled breathing really helped me "pay attention" Thanks for so much your post!

Hi BE G - thanks for this.

I really like the breakdown of energy uses. I've had mental, physical, and emotional down. Actually have described social and bodily functions (digesting food can wipe me out for hours at times) often, but it didn't click to add them to the list of energy-using areas. Also, had discussed spiritual/mediatation with a couple specialists, who all said it takes energy as well, but again hadn't clued in.

I really like this - although I think I do think of these 3 additional aspects unconsciously when trying to plan / accomodate rest for/after energy usage - being conciously aware of them will help me I think.

Do you have a link to a source for this material?

if:)

I have had periods (when I was at my worst) when it was clear that the basic metabolic demands were more that my body could manage.

Brain
Heart
Digestion
Temperature regulation

At my worst, I had two of the four working. If I wasn't under several heated blankets I would have severe chest pain and my digestion would stop. If I ate ANYTHING (I had weeks where all I could digest was PediaSure) I'd get dizzy/disoriented and have severe chest pain. Some days in order to eat I had to get under the heated blankets and turn them all the way up or my digestive tract would simply stop and I'd throw up.

It was both terrifying and fascinating to see first hand how these vital functions we take for granted could be competing with each other for metabolic resources.

ETA - Standing and sitting were out of the question. Amazingly, so was any noise including very soft music such as Norah Joans. The sound of truck in the street would bring on chest pain. Needless to say. I was strictly bedbound during this period. I'm not there today but wow, what an experience. I describe it as having "peered over the brink" an now thankfully I've taken several steps back. I don't recommend anyone try it for themselves. I am sure that those amongst us who've been there would say the same thing.

After hearing how CFS patients sometimes quickly went into a metabolic 'danger' zone when exercising I asked her if some patients were in that zone ALL THE TIME, even when resting and she said 'Yes' - even the metabolic demands of the body in the resting state can be too much for the severely ill.

As I've backed off of so many "non essential" energy expendatures it's interesting to see that even the most basic things stay broken, and continue to break.

Perhaps this is one model to explore all of these strange waywire symptoms we get is being in this state of of the metabolic danger zone constantly or nearly constantly. Hmm.

Hi Resting,

I didn't work personally with her. It was through e-mail and by phone. She's the greatest! At first I also worked with an assistant in town. She was helpful, but not to the extent that Staci was. When working via phone, I took notes. I had the Cardio Pulmonary Stress Test here in town. She got the results directly from my doctor and then we went from there. Thanks for posting.
