"Real" energy from Vyvanse, Strattera etc?

I'm thinking of trying something like vyvanse, strattera, modiodal, adderall etc to enhance energy. Anyone who tried it and can share what kind of effect it had? Is it *real energy" or does it just make you overdo it, crash and burn?

I used to take stimulants all the time when I was healthier. I liked them a lot. My favorite was, crap can't think of the name. I'm trying to remember. Got it Focalin. It worked for about 5-6 hours, had a slow taper and had a wonderful side effect of a good mood. I could not take long acting ones. The stayed in me for almost 24 hours and when it started to wear off I felt crashed but jittery.

I also tried Modafinil but I don't remember it doing much for me but I know some people really like it.

I think now, because I'm so fatigued all the time, it would not be good. Like you were worried you might do too much and then crash. If I was going to take something now I'd take a short acting one so I wouldn't have to deal all day.

Thanks. I've had this weird energy effect from Neurontine but it's starting to wear off and then I'm back to bed, dark room, communicating with notes. Not really looking forward to it. So I'm kind of desperate for something that could give me an energy boost. My doctor says stimulants usually don't work on PWME:s though. But it seems he could be wrong.

I'm thinking small doses too. Cort's blog on Vyvanse was really interesting. It's not so much that I need the energy but I need something to stimulate my CNS/brain so it's not so extremely sensitive for stimuli. That's what starts my pretty viscous downward spiral.

I took Strattera for a while, and I wouldn't say that it gives me "energy". Basically it increases my pulse pressure and helps a lot with OI. This can over-stimulate me if I take it at bed time, but doesn't increase activity capacity beyond what was limited by OI.

i tried some dexamphetamine a couple of times in a very low dose, below usual. The first time it greatly increased energy and slept very badly, 2 times after that i felt groggy and sleepy all day.

Another thing i have tried was reboxetine, a noradrenaline reuptake inhibitor, it increased energy but sleep was almost impossible and this was from very low doses too.

Something that i still find helpful but use occasionally is hydrocortisone.

Supplements of acetyl tyrosine do help too.

I'm on hydrocortisone (Florinef) now, but the effect is wearing off. As always.

I need to convince my doctor to let me try Modafinil or Elvanse then. I've got all these studies but he doesn't really have time to read them. And buying illegally isn't really an option for me, for several reasons.

Best thing would be if there was something that wasn't illegal, but I guess those things don't have the effect I need.

I never understood docs not letting us try something if it's relatively benign.

See if he'll give you and rx for just a few to try. Maybe he'd go for that.
Exactly. It's not like I would keep using it if it doesn't work. And most drugs are more benign than severe ME. How healthy is lying in a bed, alone in a dark room for who knows how long?

I'll try that. I just need a few to see if it works.

@Ninan

I had the same experience as @Valentijn with strattera.

I also took a very low dose of adderall for a while--both to constrict blood vessels (for OI) and to increase circulation to the brain. At a very low dose it can be helpful for some of us. An autonomic specialist prescribed both.

Adderal is the king of kings in the energy column..

It is basically meth amphetamine...

I was on 30mg per day when I worked last..

I would have never been able to work without it..

But I eventually got sicker with age to where it no longer helped enough for me to work..

I have ADD but it also helps out great for my CFS in the fatigue/cognitive and even pain categories,
if you learn to manage yourself while on it
meaning do not do a whole lot just because you feel like you can
You'll make your CFS symptoms a great deal worse

I'm experimenting with energy aids too. I'm finding that I need some B vitamins with my caffeine pills. Currently, I'm using vitamin water xxx because over the few years I developed an intolerance to all the B supplements I tried.

is it exhaustion, or sensory intolerance that forces you into bed?

I tried Valium today since my doctor said it could give me energy. And here I am, 2 AM, no sleep. Good energy, bad timing. Took 2,5 mg. Think I should try a smaller dose.

Anyone else gets energy from benzo? Weird.

Both. Or rather: My brain figthing to cope with sensory overload leads to exhaustion. It gets all sensitive and that starts the downward spiral.

Sensitive brain --> tired --> even more sensitive brain --> even more tired etc. Never ends well.

Lol. No I was awake at 3am and new I was going to have a cap day if I didn't sleep. 5am took 5mg valium and slept for 3hrs.

Sometimes though I think if too wired valium may not be strong enough. I guess it could reduce that wired feeling and give a more calm energy maybe??
