Kind of a miracle

" Hi Jace,

I was wondering if you've heard the following "Agnostic's Prayer".

Dear God (if there is a God), please save my Soul (if there is a Soul).

Kinda covers all bases.

Wayne "

That's why no-one admits to feeling there is a spiritual element to the life, without being able to pin it down and hem it round with words...

My prayer is:

Give me the wisdom to know the right road,
and the strength to follow it

Martlet Could you clarify for us is this the same Pope that condems the use of condoms even to prevent HIV and Aids?

This has particular relevancy to us if it is subsequently proven that XMRV is sexualy transmitable.

"The spread of HIV and Aids in Africa should be tackled through fidelity and abstinence and not by condoms. The traditional teaching of the church has proven to be the only failsafe way to prevent the spread of HIV/Aids." - Pope Benedict XVI

That probably would not really work in many cases since AIDS is often used as a catch-all for other types of disease in Africa including Malaria. They can get treatment more readily for AIDS than some other conditions but AIDS testing is too expensive, so they just say they have AIDS based on clinical signs. The whole situation is pretty messed up. Cooperative Diagnostics is trying to help with that, BTW, remember them? They have an inexpensive HIV test for Africa for this very reason, to help clear up what is really happening. I suspect many will be unhappy to learn they have something other than AIDS.

Here is my source:

According to the WHO's Africa definition, "AIDS is diagnosed on the basis of non-specific clinical symptoms and without an HIV test," Mr Fiala says. Even today, "people with for example continuous diarrhoea, weight loss and itching are declared to be suffering from AIDS. But also the typical symptoms for tuberculosis - fever, weight loss and coughing - are officially considered to be AIDS, even without an HIV test," holds the Austrian specialist. http://www.afrol.com/features/11116

But I have nothing against abstinence as a protection, but that is only a rational approach for people who will actually follow through with that. They have to be realistic.

But obviously abstinence is the best defense against ALL types of STD. Unfortunately it does not stop someone from getting CFS though, which leads me to suspect no bloodborne infection is required for CFS... but that is another topic...

I'm agreeing with Joy and quoting the Pope Benedict XVI to show she was correct, I don't agree with Pope Benedict XVI's stance.

Yes, I have read enough of your posts to realize you would not agree with the Pope.... I was just pointing out that there was some relevance to XMRV, there are CFS cases as young as two years old, and CFS cases in children where parents are from strict families that have practiced abstinence then monogamy for many generations. Then there are the outbreaks. Just pointing out that unlike AIDS, CFS has an epidemiology at odds with STD transmission, therefore is an unlikely candidate for a blood-borne infection like XMRV.

But I am getting a bit off topic for a 'miracle' thread...just noticed the relevance.

sincerely.....beautiful sleight (sp?) of hand moderating....diffuse a potentially hot exchange by inserting an xmrv relevant point:D good job!!!!!

i'm w/knackered and js...the leader of a very powerful world religion preaching to millions of ppl that condoms are not the answer to stopping the spread of aids is irresponsible and in my mind criminal...but that is completely off topic...sorry.

sexually active xmrv+ folks should practice safe sex too IMO...better safe than sorry...altho most of us who have been w/one partner for many years (and had children w/these ppl) have already passed everything back and forth...if our partners aren't sick, it's because their immune systems are better equipped to deal w/the pathogens....once again IMO

I saw a bumper sticker recently that I liked.
GOD IS TOO BIG TO FIT INTO ONE RELIGION.

I wonder, maybe a Spirituality forum is a good idea because it seems people have lots of interesting discussion around many ideas relating more or less to religion and spirituality, religion and healing, religion and health. That we've come from talking about one person's experience with faith healing to a Catholic pope's stance on AIDS seems indicative of the existence of many many potential conversations.

Great idea, you must be harmonizing with the mood here... the moderators have discussed this over the past few days and agree, so a new forum section has been added...
