I think the issue here is that Holgar can't wait for legal intervention. He will be too seriously harmed by the time that could take effect, although it does need to be done.

We need to cast immediate doubt into the CEO's mind by alerting him or her to the fact that here is a case here that could lead to very serious consequences for the patient, the hospital, and the two doctors. Give them sufficient information to give them sleepless nights and to rein back. The potential negative publicity while people round the world are following events in their hospital may concern them enough to hesitate and proceed with more caution. Hopefully, the legal intervention then won't be too late.
Yes, I don't say one shouldn't inform the CEO and the responsible docs. Information about this illness and possible consequences of the hospital stay is the right thing to do. But unfortunately, if he gets diagnosed with let's say a psychosis and the reason for involuntary treatment is given, then the hospital has the obligation to treat him, because otherwise they would break their “duty of care” or how it's called in English. So as a first step it's less about “what is ME/CFS” but “does he have ME/CFS or an illness that falls under the right for involuntary treatment“. Since it looks from the outside that it is the case that the doctors assume the latter, not only must the CEO be instructed, but the information must be given to Holger's lawyer so that he can quickly submit an application to the court.
I don't know what it's like in Sweden, but interim legal protection in Germany is very quick. If he succeeds, he could go home today.

Outrageous that such things are still happening nowadays, as if people wouldn't belong to themselves anymore. Medical kidnapping of an adult... these doctors are no more than medieval butchers.

Very good news that he will be released, and the family, if they have energy to act, should take this to court. Also it is very weird that doctors in many countries continue not to recognize ME/CFS, I don't understand, if it is recognized in countries like UK, why they have doubts. It is opposite to professional, as if they would not want this condition to be known, on purpose.

Care in uk is risible in many circumstances. So even in countries where it is ‘recognised’ doctors act of their own volition.

Not only they refuse to respond to his need and his family's but they think they can force a fully conscious person who is not a danger for anyone to be taken to the psychiatric hospital. I am my self an MD, and i can safely tell than most doctors have a god complex and are not real scientists but more like technicians. No thinking out-of the box and thinking that there couldn't be thnigs that they didn't learn or we haven't yet discovered.
The first principle that a doctor has to know is: NO HARM.

Thanks @Cipher.....good idea and probably the only really helpful one, at least at this point.

I did call the clinic this a.m. and left a message. I'd still like to know where they would choose to send him? It sounds like he's just being passed from one hosp. to another. I did mention autoimmune encephalitis on the recording, and ask them to please be kind to both the patient and his family. Also that this was wrong. Yours, L.

I am very surprised it is possible to be involuntarily hospitalized in Sweden if you are not dangerous. I thought this possibility was dark past across whole Europe. It is certainly not legal in Czech. I now wonder how it is in other states. How horrible and disgusting! :vomit:

Oh my god, I’ve basically quoted this word for word more times than I can count in my life. Thank you 🙏

What is the hippocratic oath for!

But you can't blame the doctors alone. The whole system is flawed.
Being a doctor is very stressful because of a lot of work and little time and resources. The majority of doctors develop a coping mecanisms. If a doctor knows he will help and if not he will dismiss especially if there isn't an objective parameter. The majority of doctors don't say i don't know, it's in the culture and as a coping mecanism.

The system is flawed because research is deviated to mediatic and profitable diseases. The pharmaceutical industry is just a business. Gouvernments don't allow the necessary ressources for more research and finding cures not long term treatments.

I never studied ME in medical school. I never taught that would existe a disease where exertion would make you permanently worse. My neurologist friends think that ME is just pathological fatigue.

So when a doctor who didn't learn about ME, who doesn't do research and doesn't want to learn because of a lot of reasons he will dismiss you because it's the path with the least resistance.

One of the solutions is heavy mediatisation.

The majority of doctors don't say i don't know, it's in the culture and as a coping mecanism.

That's the least they could do. They owe it to their patients, who deserve to know the truth. Being a doctor is a highly responsible job, everything they say impacts many people's lives, if someone has a coping mechanism that includes lying just to protect their ego, then how can we call that?

And that's not even the worst part. They don't know, so many of them instead of saying they don't know or suggesting to go to some other specialist, they persuade patients that they are mentally ill, how evil is that? Many patients then take drugs with a lot of side effects and get worse, because this is not the right treatment. All because of some doctor's ego. Why a doctor should be treated differently than a common lier? What they do is simply criminal. They do not only not tell the truth, but they traumatize their patients, laugh them in their faces, get angry when patients ask too many qustions or suggest something, or tell them that it is all in their heads. This is gaslighting technique used by sociopaths.

No excuses like coping mechanism. Imagine that instead of a doctor you have a car engineer who has the same coping mechanism and because of that a car is made who is dangerous and kills people. Would that be ok? The difference between doctors and engineers is that doctors can do it, because no one can prove that they lie. I agree that the whole system is flawed, that doctors may be overworked, but at least they could do is be fair to their patients and tell that they don't know if they really don't know, or ask them to come later when they do their research. And how many doctors actually want to do more research?
