Invisible Disabilities: Helping people understand
There is a website called The Invisible Disabilities Advocate
http://www.invisibledisabilities.org/index.html
They have some potentially useful resources for helping to explain invisible disabilities to others
http://www.invisibledisabilities.org/pubs.htm
Their booklet, But you Look Good!, I think is very good.
http://www.invisibledisabilities.org/booklet.htm
The booklet contains do's and don't tips for the healthy reader.
I thought that the booklet could also be useful for the sick person to read themselves. I think it shows good insight into why healthy people sometimes make comments which are annoying to us (e.g."but you don't look sick","I get tired too"). It might be a little less irritating to hear certain comments once one has a better understanding of why the person is saying such things. The main idea of the booklet is to give insight to the healthy person, but I think it could help sick people gain insight also.
