STUFFED AND CRAVING FOODS I NEVER EAT

I am getting very stuffed from shoveling down such HUGE amounts of vegies. Today for breakfast I had a big plate of greens, onions, mushrooms and some carrots, with one hardboiled egg. I was not able to eat anything for 5 hours afterwards.

In the mean time I developed some very strange cravings for foods I never eat: chocolate, ice cream, and maybe a quart of fizzy water. Today I finally gave in and ate a BIG cup of goat yogurt (a non-no) on the diet, but it finally stopped my cravings and gave e back some energy.

ANYBODY ELSE having weird stuff happening?

I'm not sure how weird it is but I discovered that all the chicken I was eating was
making me tired. I switched to beef and am having huge energy surges. Hopefully
that's a good sign.

Chicken used to put me to sleep if I ate it twice in a row, so since I wasn't doing that I thought
I was ok .. duh .. I can only eat a few bites of beef at a time in order to digest it tho.

I just can't handle all this food. I had to back off eating so much at one time. It was bothering my hiatal hernia.

fwiw . I just don't feel satiated anymore even if I've just eaten. I like the food I'm eating but
something is missing. I was already paleo so I can't imagine why ..

I'm a yogurt fan too. Maybe you just needed the probiotics .. The almond milk yogurt i'm eating is dairy free but not as good or healthy as homemade. Expensive too .. it's called amande. I don't have the energy to deal with making my own.

Hi dreambirdie, on fizzy water I love it - I drink up to six litres of soda water per week, or nearly one a day. For one thing it helps sooth a sore throat.

I get weird cravings after many meals, but nine times out of ten I want a piece of fruit about an hour after eating. Other sugar/carb foods don't satisfy me, just fruit.

I am not on the Wahls diet though, nor paleo. Many years ago (1993) I was on something like it for many months. Lots of low carb vege, some meat. It was a problem eating all that vege. During that period my capacity to exericise was increased. I then became vegetarian, and that commenced a slow four year decline during which exercise was seriously harmful.

She talks about eating eggs so you don't have to go off dairy. Just if you need to. I eat dairy. Milk, eggs and cheese. Eggs for sure. So good for you. I do not eat the large amounts but my smoothies are PACKED with a lot of what she talks about. The "Greens First" as well as veggies and friut go a long way to the amount. I can't overdo the greens with kidney stones so I am not worrying about the amount of that. We are eating more of them so that is good. The cabbage salad was good! I added currants for added sweetness. Very good.

I just stayed with Mom and Dad again while hubby went out of town. Tonight, she made a great stir fry. good way to get a lot of colorful veggies.

Hubby made venision sausage, kale, onion, garlic, soup the other night. I added a.c. vinigar. OH MY so good. Kale chips too. We are always eating good foods, but adding more greens. We love Japanese food so we are getting some sea veggies. Our meat is all grass fed organic since his family has a ranch.

Dairy is excluded fir a variety of reasons. Imho, Cordain explains this best. People with leaky gut can
react to this as an opioid thus making it addictive and harmful to our bodies.

Also, I just learned that dairy
contains lactoferrin which causes an increase in bone growth. My paget's flared (i could feel my skull growing because it's very painful) the last time I tried
dairy kefir and this explains why. Googling lactoferrin and paget's I found various studies on this.
One study on lactoferrin excluded anyone with active paget's. Now there's a big clue .. Lol ..

While
not everyone had paget's, I'd be wary of anything that can cause a paget's flare. Who knows, This may turn out to be a cause for paget's .. the dairy manufacturers certainly aren't going to let this out.

Right, she says exclude dairy and gluten in her book. She also says then introduce after a couple of weeks and see how you do. I do know some people can't have dairy.

I am on Facebook also, I read her posts. I am just mentioning you can have it if you do fine with it. I make sure I do, since I can eat it.

She likes free chicken eggs that eat bugs, flax meal, etc. Eggs are not dairy though. Some people put eggs in that catagory.

Sadly, I can relate to thinking eggs and dairy are same. I ate a raw pink shrimp about
two months ago because I got it from the same area as the cooked shrimp at publix.
Brain fog and hunger are a dangerous combo ..

For anyone who's brain fog is this bad, I'd highly recommend this diet and getting tested
Or just treating for candida and bad bacteria. When I was fighting h pylori, my oi and brain fog
worsened significantly. Lay off the fruit and other high carb and high glycemic foods if
you.re treating candida. You'll be able to add these in later but go easy still.

I'm actually feeling better so I'll be heading to the beach today. It took me about a week after
getting off the antibiotics to get my energy back. In case you're interested I took azo w probiotics, fem dophilus, blue bonnet dairy free,
ate amande yogurt twice a day and took two metagenics probiotics.

Ps The info on the dangers of dairy / casein has been available for many years now. The autism community is the most aware of how this can act as an opioid. DAN doctors have been writing about this for a long time. But that's just
one angle, the other anti dairy info I thought was interesting is that
we're not supposed to be ingesting another animal's milk. This is
meant for calves not humans. We're only supposed to drink our
other's milk when we're infants. Lactoferrin, which enables bone growth, is very high in a new mother's milk but decreases after 3 weeks. It's still there just not as high .. Tc .. X

Hello Everybody-- I'm checking in to see how you all are doing on the Wahl's Diet... ?

As for me, I am proceeding forward, with ever greater desires for kale and mushrooms, which have now become my daily cravings.

I'm still not up to 9 cups of vegies/day, but probably am getting close to 6. I am usually so full after a big plate of kale, mushrooms, and onions with an egg or two for breakfast, that lunch turns out to be the most challenging meal.

I have not done as well integrating the colored vegies, because I am so focused on greens and sulfur veg's for now. But I do eat sweet potatoes and carrots, some raspberries when I can get them in.

I have not noticed any significant changes yet in reality, but in my dreams I have had more energy than usual. I take that as a good sign. My dreams are always a step ahead of me, and tend to be harbingers of things to come.

Hi; I was doing pretty well until about a week ago, when several things seem to have set me back a bit. One was weather--we got storms (low barometric pressure always upsets my balance), some snow, limiting movement a bit (icy sidewalks, etc), and I started making what I now call roughies --I don't have a high power blender, so put lots of green veg, carrots, bit of ginger, some fruit, including mixed berries, etc. into a food processor, and process until I have something between a soup and gazpacchio. Many cupfuls of good stuff, including the fibre. So I sit down and eat this--tastes good--and I think I have overwhelmed by digestive tract. So I am now back to juicing part of my daily intake--seems much easier on my gut.

Overall I feel somewhat better, until recent setback was definitely sleeping better, and my overall energy was increasing. I am slowly incorporating this bone broth thing, and aim to continue with some modifications along the road as things develop. Still feeling optimistic about the project, particularly in the light of the new study that shows that "Boosting Mitochindria may not only increase energy, but also lead to viral clearance"--see the thread under "Antivirals, Antibiotics and Immune Modulators". Who knows, we --guided by Wahls--may be able to bypass the whole viral issue and just sail on past towards health.... OK, I'm dreaming, but....

I'm struggling a bit with the food prep! I've just made a chart so I can better track what I'm doing and keep motivated.

I've been experimenting with making green smoothies over the last week and am finding them tolerable but not something I'd drink out of choice. I've ordered some stevia, which may help. I think I'm probably a "supertaster" - i.e. someone who is genetically predisposed to find broccoli and similar vegetables very bitter. I've tended, lifelong, to avoid green veg and go for the red/yellow/orange ones. Still, compared to medicine (my baseline for comparison!) the green smoothies are palatable enough.

I'm still struggling to do enough chopping and cooking to prepare enough vegetables otherwise. I love the kale chips though with my very limited energy, they're quite hard work for me to do (but the pay-off is that they're very easy to eat because they don't involve much chewing). I'm also roasting chopped onion, which I love, but again, it's a bit energy-intensive for me. I have a weekly online food order and it's a bit daunting to be faced each week with a ton of fresh produce to deal with.

So, still working on getting some sort of routine and palatable meal plan going with the fruit and veg. I'm eating wild shrimp every day (source of Omega-3 because they feed on algae) and nuts and hemp oil or milk every day. I haven't attempted the bone broth or seaweed yet and have only had the liver (yuk) once. So, far from perfect but an improvement on what I was doing.

Healthwise, I'm not doing better - slightly worse, if anything, though that could be due to new viral infections. Hard to tell.

I'm glad others are doing well though, and are getting a good handle on it - I am shuffling imperfectly in your wake! :rolleyes:

Sasha, sorry to hear you are doing maybe slightly worse. I was doing a bit better, now coming up from a minor down, but seem to have run into what may be a problem--still awaiting the arrival of Wahls' book, which may or may not address this issue.

The cruciferous vegetables are known to be goitrogenic--damp down the thyroid--and I (we) have been taking a LOT of them. So as a safeguard (well, maybe...) I have been taking a kelp supplement that provides 850mcg of iodine. I have just had my Thyroid Stimulating Hormone checked, and it is a rather high 5.2--it used to be much lower. Now comes a study (Sang, Z, PMID: 22205314) showing that daily iodine supplements of over 200-400 can downregulate the thyroid. So--what has been downregulating my thyroid production (assuming that is what the reading of 5.2 implies)--too much dark green stuff, or the supplement, or both? I think I will back off both for a week or so, and then resume at a slightly lower level for the greens, and a considerably lower level--maybe one or two caps per week of the kelp.

Has anyone else experienced this, or have any good advice on handling potential thyroid problems, which are new to me?

I stopped my beloved Cola and Hershey Kisses.:(I miss them.....Glycation is serious so I am doing all I can.

BUT I love bubbles in drinks so we bought a Soda Stream and now I can make carbonated water. I have it plain a lot, or add it to juice or add lemon. I love it!

Gluten free is easy, cutting way back on sugar is hard. It is in everything.

Hi all,

I'm noticing more energy from leafy greens .. Anyone else ? Less meat at each meal is helping too. And
boiled eggs, yolk only for me, helps too. I'm using avocados and raw nuts and seeds to keep my weight
up.

I would imagine all of us are going through withdrawals. I stopped eating 99% of the sugary treats and chips I grew up on 6 years ago, but I still crave them. It's gotten worse on this diet. Probably because I'm not giving in anymore. Every afternoon I have to talk myself out of
running to the hfs for some kind of garbage food. Lol .. The flax muffins I made help here but it's
not the same.

I'm finding that raw salads and smoothies are easier for me to keep up with. I'm forcing myself to eat brocolli too but I could
munch on raw red cabbage anytime. It seems to calm my digestive tract down ..

Tmi.alert .. I seem to need some fiber to keep my bowels formed. Either konsyl or flax work. This may still be linked to my h pylori or parasite treatment tho.

Since eliminating diet sodas, canned fruits and vegetables, and chewing gum from my diet after seeing the evidence presented by Dr. Monte, all my symptoms have disappeared. Dr. Monte gave me my life back.

I haven't had any aspartame, canned fruits or veg, or chewing gum for decades. Still ill.

I'd like to see the evidence that aspartame, or methanol is the cause of: "cancers, heart disease, diabetes, autoimmune diseases like Lupus and Multiple Sclerosis, autism, and Alzheimers disease".

Wouldn't it be wonderful if all chronic, incurable illnesses were caused by diet soda and canned vegetables, and everyone could just stop drinking/eating those and be disease free?

Hi Chris - I don't know about the thyroid stuff (hypothyroidism runs in my family but seems to have skipped me) but I've had to give up on the Wahls diet for now. I've got a load of fresh produce sitting in my fridge that I can't prepare and have been feeling worse, rather than better since I started the diet and increased the amount of greens I've been eating. However, I may have had some winter bugs - my symptoms with new bugs are always muted so it can be hard to tell.

I think I will maybe come back to the diet in the summer when I'm less prone to catching viruses and will have a stable basis to work from.

Hi Sasha--

I'm sorry that you are feeling worse. I hope you feel better soon.

My concern about eating anything raw, especially in winter during cold and flu season, is the bugs that I could pick up from store bought produce. If you think about all the people who handle the produce on its way from the field to the store to your refrigerator, and consider the fact that many may be working with colds (or other worse kinds of infections), and not washing their hands regularly.... YIKES! Because of these concerns, I usually triple wash (with soap, then peroxide, then white vinegar), and then peel all my root vegies and others that have skins that are tough enough for that. But greens can't be washed like this, so I have to cook all of them thoroughly, in order to avoid the risk of infection.

This is limiting how many vegies I can get down each day. I am continuing to do the diet, but I am not eating the 9 cups of vegies that's recommended. I am not feeling a lot of improvement, but that may be due to other factors as well.

Hi, all; I have backed off a bit on both the dark greens and the kelp iodine supplement, but am sticking to a slightly reduced version, and still slowly improving, though still have downer days. I have also ordered the Sperti Fiji sun lamp, that gives both UV A and B. There is now evidence that part of the power of those dark greens and beets lies in the nitrates and nitrites they contain (www.aor.ca has a new magazine focused on this--very interesting--you can read or download it from there), and there is also now evidence that UV A plays a role in this. So I am hoping that the combo of those veg and fruits and more UV will keep me on an upward path.
Though the TSH reading would suggest a low thyroid output, I feel more energy than before--see my doc next week, will find out whether she will propose further testing or just a retest in a month or two.

I have also added Chondroitin Sulfate to my diet; there was some research on this in the 70s by Dr. Lester Morrison, but that was buried. Now there is renewed interest, and you will find interesting stuff by Googling. I suggest taking a look at PMID:19522843 , a paper by du Souich at the U de Montreal from 2009, which concludes that "The review of the literature suggests that CS might also be of interest for the treatment of other diseases with an inflammatory or autoimmune character, such as IBD, degenerative diseases of the central nervous system and stroke, MS and other autoimmune diseases. " We ar not named, but included by the scope of his statement.
