It's definitely crappy adrenal function. I've tried adrenal extract though, dhea, and various other things. all had side effects. I just try to keep the salt balance somewhat when I remember to. It's hard always remembering to eat the right amount of each exact thing. My diet is so careful and perfect compared to every healthy person I know and it's still never enough. Then if I fall off it for a couple of days I regret it.
I started on 30mg hydrocortisone daily, divided into 3 doses - the Vital Nutrients Adrenal Support (the strongest product I could find) was not enough. Over time, as my infections and other issues were treated, I was able to lower my dose to 25mg, then to 20, 15, 10, 5, 2, 1 and finally no hydrocortisone.

On the way, I had an adrenal crisis, after a treatment a doctor gave me. Excruciating pain in what I thought were my kidneys but which turned out to be my adrenals. One can die from adrenal crisis.... It taught me that I was in that tippy a boat.

If you are that short of cortisol, it might be wise to be on replacement dose hydrocortisone, so that you are not at so great a risk. I'm flabbergasted that the Clinicians Coalition document advises against this EVEN THOUGH THE DOCTORS PRESCRIBE IT TO THEIR OWN PATIENTS!

Not always. Sometimes just erratic cortisol ....
Cortisol levels can fluctuate wildly during any given day .... if your system's reacting to stress, and which among us isnt at some point during the day, your cortisol levels will rise almost immediately, as soon as 10 to 15 minutes after the onset of stress, and can remain elevated for several hours. This has the effect of mobilizing glucose and anything else your body can use for fuel, as well as suppressing some organ systems not perceived as 'vital' in that moment, and briefly decreases inflammation while your system manages the stress.

After that, there's a sense of depletion and fatigue as your adrenals recover and your bdy resets.

If you repeat this stress cycle several times during the day, your adrenals are being overworked.

Cortisol is normally highest in the AM, and lowest in the evening/nite.

Oral hydrocortisone has some extreme and uncomfortable side effects, some of them long-lasting. I'd be hesitant to undertake this as a treatment without really good reason and medical back-up (if I could get it).

It's one of those things that some Drs throw at just about everything, from swelling caused by inflammation to asthma, arthritis, vision problems, lupus, skin rashes, ulcerative colitis, bone marrow issues, you name it.

It's also used as part of some forms of chemo ....it suppresses your immune system.

It's a powerful drug ....

It just seems v odd that I am this sedentary walking only about 1,400 steps a day yet am eating v similarly to how I was before ... In fact this wk I've lost 1.5 pounds ??
Anyone have an thoughts / experience ...

@Emmarose47 yes this is a thing. I do think it is partially the body burning through nutrients to fight off viruses.

Before CFS, I worked out a ton (5x a week) and ate super clean (paleo). Couldn't seem to get rid of the last 2-4lbs that I gained after I got hypothyroidism.
Wellllll, guess what solved that? Getting CFS! About 6 months in, it seems like I just dropped weight overnight. And not just those couple pounds - more like 7-10 lbs! That put me at a weight before I was fully developed. I lost my butt :(

We could film an infommercial: The no workout weight loss plan! Eat all you want and lay in bed all day and lose weight!!
