The other substance it contains is cytochrome p450 which helps to metabolize toxic compounds
CYP450 is not a substance. We have a set of CYP450 genes, which express proteins, in this case enzymes that work in Phase I detoxification. They need co factors to work properly, and some of us have CYP SNPs that make us metabolize things more quickly or slowly than other people.
In some people/animals, Phase I detoxification, works just fine, converting toxins into intermediate metabolites that can be more toxic than the initial toxin (like in the case of arsenic), but then Phase Ii detoxification, which consists of several pdicesses using different genes, enzymes, and cofactors may not work as well, causing the buildup of toxins and worsening symptoms.
These Phase II procrsses include:
Glutathione conjugation
Methylation
Sulfation
Acylation/Glycation
Acetylation
Glucuronidation

Many of us have problems in these various pathways and have toxins complicating out situations. I have, unfortunately, learned all of this the hard way over the past 10 years.
The easiest way to get toxins out is not to put them in in the first place.

So, its important to be aware of the potential risks of anything we ingest...
