Hi everyone,

I just got a little tip of my specialist in Brussels. I think i am not allowed to say more, but keep your eyes and ears open from China!
(Also J.M. mentioned China a few times ?) Any one here who reads Chinese ?

This is an old post, but it says some interesting stuff there:

AIDS drugs fight prostate-cancer virus: study

AIDS drugs made by Merck & Co., GlaxoSmithKline Plc and Gilead Sciences Inc. blocked a virus linked to prostate cancer and chronic fatigue syndrome, a study showed.

Merck's Isentress fought the virus, XMRV, more powerfully than 44 other anti-HIV compounds tested against the pathogen in laboratory experiments, according to researchers from Emory University and the University of Utah. Glaxo's Retrovir and Gilead's Viread also prevented XMRV from replicating, according to a statement from Emory today.

XMRV, or xenotropic murine leukemia virus-related virus, was discovered in 2006 and has since been found in some prostate tumors and in the blood of people with chronic fatigue syndrome. Researchers say its relationship with both diseases is unclear, and European studies last year failed to find the virus in chronic fatigue syndrome patients. Tests of the drugs in patients with XMRV are needed, said Ila Singh, who led the research at the University of Utah's medical school.

We will need to see the results of clinical trials before these drugs can be used in a clinical setting, Singh said in the statement.

XMRV, like HIV, is a retrovirus that gets incorporated into the genome of the cells it infects. It may trigger cancer by locating in the cell's genetic material next to DNA that controls cell growth, disrupting those genes in a way that allow cells to replicate uncontrollably, Emory said in the statement.

Prostate Cancer Link

The virus was found in 44 percent of men with the most aggressive form of prostate cancer, Singh found in a study published in September. XMRV turned up in the blood of two- thirds of a set of tissue samples taken from people with chronic fatigue syndrome and 3.7 percent of a group of healthy individuals, according to separate research published in the journal Science in October.

Isentress is the first in a new class of AIDS medicines that halt HIV by blocking an enzyme called integrase the virus uses to insert its genetic material into the nucleus of healthy immune cells. Merck won U.S. approval in July to sell the drug as an initial treatment for HIV patients. It was previously marketed only to patients who had failed all other therapies.

The research was published today in the journal PLoS ONE, a publication of the Public Library of Science, a San Francisco- based nonprofit organization. The study was funded by Emory's Center for AIDS Research and the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Glaxo and Pfizer Inc. combined their HIV-drug units last year, with the U.K. company owning 85 percent of the resulting entity, Viiv Healthcare.

We're testing the hypothesis that XMRV for CFS leads as HIV causes Aids leads. There are many people with HIV who do not have AIDS (because their treatment). But by definition when you have ME you have XMRV. I make the analogy in presentations such as CFS diagnosis tank and test the hypothesis that XMRV a major player in ME / CFS such as HIV AIDS, will lead to treatment and research funds for biomedical research and will eliminate XMRV the psychiatric history of the prejudices that form the disease. I think there is only one XMRV? Absolutely NOT ... there are a HTLV-2 and HIV-2 which both accompanied by milder symptoms than the variant HIV-1 and HTLV-1. What if the first XMRV should be associated with CFS is not the most pathogenic variant? What if there is one more pathogenic variant XMRV-2 exist? In the United Kingdom or China?

Interesting. I have read about a mysterious illness which appears to be infectious going around in China but it didn't have that CFS ring to it when described. At least I don't recall thinking that it did. At any rate, I wonder if they've connected something. What a day we live in when the Chinese government, not known for it's compassion or humanitarianism, just might be out stripping our CDC in the XMRV field. All pure speculation of course. No facts behind it, just the ramblings of a chronically bored mind.

It's sickening to think that people like the CDC, wessely, etc. etc. have probably allowed this to spread for years. Do we have any idea of time for the China story? or is it like the NIH/FDA study, without deadline.

do not want to stir up crazy hysteria

Now, i do not want to stir up crazy hysteria, just want to add it , because i found it on the net, looking for more info from china. Sounds scary though....and so familiar, the answers of government officials and docs, to unexplained symptoms...... Feel really sorry for them.

Hi V99, I really do not know if and when the China information is going to be public. Except for this private tip, i do not have confirmation on this yet, so i do not want to speculate to much. But just looking on the net for some information, will maybe bring up some additional confirmation .

Most CFS patients have had too much realty to get hysterical. The rest of the world might. Thanks for posting aruschima :sofa:

Is this by Judy Mikovits? Maybe it's just me but i'm having trouble understanding it.

Hope, no article yet , but could some of your family members go online and type in XMRV research or testing in Chinese and see if something is coming up. Should be a fairly large study/testing of XMRV, 2000 peopl of general population. China is in general very secretive, my guess is they really do not want to go public . Worth trying though.
