For me Prusty's work and Naviaux theory of cell danger response aim to get to the root of the problem, are complementary and could even explain Phair's theory. If my cells are shutting down because of an over reaction to an infection, I'm going to be not producing enough of a whole host of bio chemicals essential for life function.
My back ground is in arboriculture and the Dutch Elm Disease (DED) was caused by a virulent fungus causing elm trees to overreact and cut the transportation of water up the tree in an attempt to stop the fungus getting to the whole tree, possibly a bit like Prusty is proposing, shut down the cells so the infection cant get in to them. DED did however kill millions of trees.
So how do we stop this response to danger? Remove the infectious agent, which is similar to what Learner did with long term anti viral regimes. Over time cells are reproduced virus free. I think it takes about 7 to 10 years to replenish all the cells in the body, hence long term application. But the medications are not really designed for this and as we know which infection is causing the overreaction anyway, and is it just one?
Another option is to stop the overreaction in the immune system. But, if we stop the immune system working whilst some of it needs to, many parts of it are essential to us for our existences.
Targeting the infectious agent with specifically designed drugs could be an answer, but I've read some of the infectious agents are now co evolving with us and could be part of an essential complex system and doing so could do more harm than good. Last year Ron Davis and OMF released an updated video saying something along the lines that they thought that a cheap treatment and one time application could be able to solve the ME/CFS problem, but after a short time the video disappeared with the unexplained theory, did anyone else see this? I think it could have been to target an infectious agent and remove it, but I'm just guessing.
The above is just what I've pieced together with my history of illness and symptoms, it may not be applicable to many sufferers, hopefully short time will tell. A guy called Dr Alex Shigo eventually explained how trees stop infection from moving through them and decaying them. Many people before he did it, where proposing what was happening with decay in trees, but he was the first to fully explain it and put the theory in the open, its called C.O.D.I.T. I'm hoping that the theory's we see for ME/CFS will lead very soon to someone doing something similar for our community.
