Hey @Hutan. I've just been reading the rules for this. I don't know if this has been discussed before (no I am not reading through all 37 pages!) but the eaglerare site says (http://www.eaglerarelife.com/content/official-rules, bolding is theirs)
5. Voting/Judging/Judging Criteria. There will be 1 phase of the voting and judging; You may vote for your favorite by clicking the vote box on the Sponsor’s site www.eaglerarelife.com . Members of the public may vote for multiple stories but only once per story, per 24 hours. Online ballot-box stuffing is not permitted, and subjects all votes from such active email address from being disallowed.

The top 30 submitted stories meeting all eligibility requirements will then be judged by the Sponsor, or its independent agent(s) who will determine which will be displayed on the Eagle Rare “Lead a Rare Life” website. Finalist judging will take place from Jan 5, 2017 to the week of March 6, 2017, and will be based on the following criteria: a) Relevance to the Promotion Theme (50%); b) Originality and Creativity (20%); c) Story Quality and Clarity (10%); and online voting by website visitors (20%). Ties, if applicable, shall be broken using only criterion "a." Criterion "a" shall be interpreted to mean how well a submitted story entry depicts the “Lead a Rare Life” theme. The entry with the highest overall score from the top 30 will then be placed on the Eagle Rare “Lead a Rare Life” website as the grand prize winner. In addition, the entries with the highest scores in each of the six categories will be placed on the Eagle Rare “Lead a Rare Life” website as category winners. Any voting that appears to be conducted using unfair methods, including the use by an individual of multiple email addresses, robotic, or third-party means, will be eliminated, and the voting party disqualified.
Does this mean Blue Ribbon only has to finish in the top 30 of the public voting to go into the final judging round and then the public votes only count 20% of the final score? This means there is still a chance for the grand prize even though we probably won't catch Devoted Barn
:)

@BruceInOz, you are absolutely correct.

If we can roll in in say third place in the voting, and between now and the time of judging there are lots of good media items about how ME/CFS is a real disease and pretty common and debilitating and that we need more doctors who understand it, then I'd say we have a great chance of getting the grand prize. This is especially so as all of the other contenders are very similar, taking care of animals - we stand out as being different.

For the same reason, I think we have a very good chance of winning at least a category prize. I don't think the judges will want to give all the awards to animal charities.

And, of course, this is about more than the $50,000 or $5,000. A win adds to a growing snowball of credibility for, and awareness of, ME/CFS.

(That said, it will certainly help if we have an impressive number of votes, so don't stop!)

:sluggish::sluggish::sluggish: I've just realised that the "slugs" must actually be dauer worm larva! :sluggish: i.e. Our distant cousins and ancestors! :sluggish::sluggish::sluggish: So perhaps the "slugs" are not the enemy after all, and we misunderstood them??? o_O Perhaps they were trying to protect us against the against the alien invasion? How could we get their intentions so wrong???

@Luther Blissett, you have a talent as a story teller!

Agreed and I just read through that Emoji story and felt like I was watching a soap opera or telenovela LOL. My favorite part was the question mark snuck in between the slug and the scared emoji. Well done :)!

I really like that part, too, as well as, I will only say the thumbs up part so not to give the story away, except for the ending, which was so moving!

Ha! Quite a story there, Luther! Much fun! :) I see those pesky slugs are at it again! I'm glad it had a happy ending! Am I right to think that the alien slug invasion was stopped by a raging fire?! :)

You are all too kind  !

I cannot take credit for the story, It's a (classic ?) B-Movie, I just tried to interpret it like a kind of emoji charade :)
Before I reveal the name of it, I'll leave two picture clues, because if anyone has seen it and guesses correctly, I might not be able to contain my laughter :D

I'm laughing now, because Bob nearly got the whole story, when he guessed the correct ending I was so impressed. (pick Bob for charades)

Before I forget my voting number, it's 29702.

And @Bob, you might be onto something... the slugs might be the dauer worm larva and may have been trying to send us a message this entire time and we misunderstood it! This changes all of my future stories...
