Video on using Japanese EAT (epipharyngeal abrasive therapy) to treat long COVID.

Dr Hotta believes that chronic inflammation in the epipharynx (aka nasopharynx) affects the hypothalamus of the brain, as the hypothalamus is situated close to the epipharynx (see timecode 16:07).

EAT therapy involves dabbing a zinc chloride solution onto the epipharynx using a cotton swab, and a mildly abrasive action (which is though to stimulate blood flow to the area) in order to address the epipharynx inflammation.

Results on long COVID patients:

Would nasal irrigation with zinc chloride solution work as well?

Zinc nasal sprays can sometimes permanently destroy the sense of smell, so zinc nasal irrigation is probably not a good idea. Also, as I understand it, the effectiveness of EAT comes from the abrasive action of the cotton swab on the nasopharynx, as well as from the zinc chloride.

I read a bit more about the protocol for this and they use a lidocaine spray to take away the reflex that hopefully makes this possible to do on yourself. While they use Zinc Chloride you can also use Iodine which is less likely to cause issues. I don't think its easy to do this with an endoscope as well on yourself but procedure wise if the Lidocaine works it should just involve that + anti bacterial (Zinc Chloride or 15% Iodine) and the long thin (ideally) cotton swabs.
