@Gingergrrl -I stopped it today because I could barely walk. My pain went nuts and I was in bed all day yesterday but unable to sleep. I can't take days like that. I took enough pain meds last night to put out a horse. I am in pain today. It may not be the Valtrex, but I a m not sure and I am going to start it in a few days.

This is beyond frustrating because my main issue with this illness anymore is PAIN. It started as CFS and morphed into hardcore pain.

My next option will be surgery to help the nerve and honestly, I am not ready because the nerve pain comes from a virus or autoimmune problem.

I am glad you can still take yours...it means there is pain, but it's not too bad. It could pass!

talk it over with your doc, but maybe could do 2 weeks courses at a time. I know when i started valcyte i just couldnt tolerate it for very long but everytime i stopped i would noticed i was better then i was before i started valcyte. AFter several attempts like this i got to a stage where i could just tolerate it and then stayed with it for 18months. So thats just an option i guess, dont give up totally on it too early. interesting to see if you notice improvement once your off for awhile??

@Misfit Toy I am so sorry to hear this and it sounds like you made the right decision. It sounds like our situations are different in the sense that pain is not a major issue for me in general so I highly suspected the headaches and facial pain were from the Famvir. For you it sounds like the Valtrex may be exacerbating all the pain issues you are already having and much more intense/severe. Have you pursued surgery or is this a viable option?

Or can you talk to your Dr re: @heapsreal suggestion to pulse or alternate the Valtrex? I am not sure if anti-virals need to be consistent but it is a great idea and question for your Dr.

He's easy. Meaning...he would be fine with that. I am still in bad pain and I didn't take it today. Mystery illness symptoms #3,598! Constantly baffled.

I have to go to a hand specialist on Monday. My wrist is swollen and I can't move it without it popping. I am actually starting to think I have Ehlers Danlos. Even my last rheumatologist suggested it. One more diagnosis and I may go postal!

Did the pain go away after you stopped the Valtrex?
