I've minimal experience of PR/journalism, but even something like a press release re IiME conference or similar might have a chance of getting some press attention.
Surely there must be a friend/relative of the 250k plus PWME, with relevant experience who could give some advice...

Hi MEMum

Invest in ME, who are behind liME, certainly put out press releases, as I believe do all the major charities and action groups. But that's also the problem with press releases — everybody produces them, and news outlets are constantly hit with far more than they want or need. Most press releases are spiked with barely a glance.

My concern was more with the question of what does a journalist do when they're looking for background on ME/CFS. Which sources do they turn to? And who will those sources lead them to in the inevitable hunt for a reaction or opinion?

Sadly, few journalists make the effort to look past official sources, and we know the extent to which a certain school of thought dominates those sources right now. But some do. And it's really important that for those journalists the path to more open-minded researchers is as well signposted as the one which leads to the door marked "Psychogenic Theory".

'IiME' is just short for 'Invest in ME', in the same way that 'MEA' is short for the 'ME Association'. :)
Sorry, for some reason I thought the acronym was specifically for the conference. I'm still catching up with all this after years of passivity so I've got a lot more gaps than knowledge. :)
