Dr Weir's Feniton ME Clinic

For those of you who would like to see a very experienced and supportive doctor who has specialised in ME for 30 years, the ME clinic which is held in my home in the SW of England will be starting again after being postponed by Covid.

They are normally held every six weeks, and we start again next week.

From now, they will be held over a weekend and Monday morning.

This is not an NHS clinic, but Dr Weir generously charges only half price for the people he sees in my home.

The appointments are usually between 60mins and 90mins and he writes letters to your GP explaining the illness, recommending treatment, and also will support your claim for benefits if you qualify for them, as well as pension claims. He is extremely kind and supportive to his patients.

If you want to see him, he will need all your contact details and those of your GP and a medical history.

Please contact me at jwilson21@toucansurf.com if you would like to make an appointment.

Thank you!

You might also like to read a paper he has just written with Dr Nigel Speight and Helen Baxter from the 25% ME group on tube feeding severe patients which has just been published. (There is another one being published on ME in about three weeks by Dr Weir.)

I am still waiting for the guys call back from last September after contacting them earlier last year and many times since. Honestly I can't recommend him because I have been unable to see him, he has done nothing by waste my time.

What has happened? Who are you waiting for a call-back?

If you have written to his secretary, it has been found that the emails have been ending up in the 'junk' file.

Can I pass on a message for you @BrightCandle ?

@BrightCandle, I am very sorry to hear of your experience. It doesn't make sense to me.

Could he not travel because of lockdown? I know it has prevented him holding his clinics.

I know there is a problem with his secretary passing on messages at times, and people have on a number of occasions resorted to contacting me as I speak to him a few times a week and can pass on the messages. he then always acts. I suspect it is because of lockdown and he is also working flat out for the NHS as a consultant and it has been quite demanding this year. He also fell ill with Covid.

If you change your mind, I can speak to him for you and you will then get a visit if you want one. Just let me know by sending a PM.

I'd go with what Countrygirl has said.

Lockdown put even the biggest players on hold.
I think many banks alone had a skeleton crews operating their call centres which obviously frustrated the masses.

At times I couldn't get through to any institutions and just hung up after a few hours of letting the phone ring.
It was the same with emails, no respone in weeks, sometimes months.
As frustrating as it was, I had to accept we had come to an almost stand still.

Hi @BrightCandle

I was in the same boat with Dr Weir last year. Recently and surprisingly, his office got in touch offering me an appointment. The explanation I was given was that he cancelled the majority of clinics last year due to the pandemic.

I’m not sure what type of support you are seeking from a doctor, but Dr Weir is probably the only doctor in the UK that can/is willing to write comprehensive imformation about CFS/ME that will aid accessing long-term financial and disability support, social care, etc.

I have seen a couple of doctors since dissmissing the idea of seeing Dr Weir by his lack of availability, but none could help in that manner. Dr Weir on the other hand can recommend further tests to your GP based on his in depth knowledge of ME/CFS, again this isn’t something the other doctors I saw provided me much of.

I’d get in touch with his office and try and get an appointment. There may be some adaptations that could be made to your home, etc. that only someone with knowledge of the functional impairments caused by ME will strongly recommend without taking you down the path of having a psychosomatic disorder.

Thanks for posting this. I was given his name by my previous me/cfs specialist Professor Findley who is now retired. About a year ago, maybe longer, Dr, Weir's secretary phoned me to let me know about available appointments in central london. I said i'd prefer maybe just a skype consultation due to covid. His secretary said i could email Dr. Weir about this. Well I did write to him but I never heard back. That was on 29th of Jan of this year. I figured he was busy with pandemic playing a factor. Maybe he doesn't use this email anymore.

Hi, I saw him a week ago. His London secretary is called Hellen, she contacted me about available appointments, but I also asked to be put on a cancellation waitlist. So far he has been responsive, in fact too quick considering my functioning limitations.

I hope you get to see him soon. Depending on how severe you are, there may be other doctors out there who can assist with isolating conditions and prescribing drugs. Usually within the doctors profile it may mention an interest in the overlap with CFS ME or MUS or Fatiguing illnesses - something along those lines.
