Using a new kind of microscopy technique, researchers isolated a small molecule called inositol hexakisphosphate (IP6). They think the virus might hijack this molecule in host cells, using it to both shield itself from our immune system, and release its viral payload.

no, not quite. It is a phosphate of inositol. As I understand it people (perhaps not pwme/cfs) have enzymes that can break down inositol with up to 5 phosphate groups but not IP6 inositol with 6 phosphate groups.

It is used to sequester minerals in plant seeds and something that people into Weston A Price or Paleo are concerned about. which is how I first became aware of it.

It is not important to the article I just am much more aware of people calling it phytic acid, so I mentioned it. It can qet quite confusing when there are many names for the one compound.
