I just realized that most of my symptoms are driven by insulin resistance.

I was not diabetic so I was figuring I was not affected by this problem.

I was totally wrong....

Inflammation causes insulin resistance, in vessels, brain, muscles, etc.

Because of insulin resistance, microvasculature in the muscle or the brain cannot dilate and cannot increase blood flow when they need more O2 and Glucose.

Because of insulin resistance your muscle cells and brain cells can't uptake the glucose and potassium they need.

Inflammation also causes high hepcidin and low blood iron, often associated.

Patti, the way I found the bit of info about hepcidin is I did a search on selenium + iron because of having read about selenium, thyroid, and hashimoto's.

See if this study means anything to the topic. I realize they use "weight" as a means to study and talk about it, but only because obesity is associated with chronic inflammation. I have only skimmed the first 2 paragraphs, so I don't know much about it.

selenium deficiency may be an important issue to fix when one need to manage chronic low grade inflammation, it's part of my daily cocktail, but it didn't allow my iron level to raise...

I think @pattismith is on to something with the inflammation, blood vessels, insulin resistant thing but it still seems downstream to me. If you search metformin on this site not many people have a good experience with it and most find it negative which means this insulin resistance isn't being caused in the usual manor.

I think it's probably something to do with the immune system causing problems with the blood flow due to a pathogen the immune system can't get rid of.

If it was inflammation in the blood vessels then some sort of anti inflammatory should help with that yet we would have heard about it if it did.

I've read people improving POTS symptoms with immune suppressive things but that's not good long term.

Its certainly contributing in my case....I am having to further Watch It.

My chinese herbalist warned me: do not take Metformin. That it would not turn out well. They isolated something from a plant. Once again. So it would not. be good in my individual case, which is also likely similar to any number of others around here.......

@sb4 ,

I think insulin resistance may be the first problem for some of us, whereas it may be a secondary problem for some others (physical inactivity induces insulin resistance).

Brain insulin resistance is not completely understood, but some infections and inflammation have shown to produce IR, so I wonder if we could imagine some localized IR in some part of the brain following an infection (or a vaccine!).
