supplements in non sublingual form

I've been reading that supplements have to be sublingual, in order to bypass the gut. Is that absolutely true?

What happens if you can't find sublingual forms of supplements, or the sublingual versions contain too many excipients? What about powdered supplements and transdermals?

Apologies if this has been discussed before.
