Smartphone app to track supplements, drugs, symptoms, activity etc

Updated: I’m creating a voice note-taking app designed for people dealing with chronic conditions like CFS/ME. First and foremost, I’m making this app for myself because I’ve been living with CFS/ME for many years and know how hard it can be to track everything.

The app lets you easily record short or detailed voice notes about your daily experiences—like energy levels, symptoms, meals, supplements, sleep, physical activity, mood etc. For example, you might say:
  • “Short walk today, felt okay but got tired after 10 minutes.”
  • “Slept from 9 PM to 7 AM, woke up tired but better than yesterday.”
  • “Started 1000 IU of D3, no changes yet.”
It will then organize your notes into a detailed journal and give you insights and trends over time. This could help you spot patterns—like what makes you feel better or worse—and figure out what’s affecting your health.

I want this app to be something that helps me manage my condition, but also something that others in the CFS/ME community can benefit from.

I’d love to hear what you think! Are there features you’d find especially helpful? Your ideas and feedback would mean a lot and can help make this app truly useful.

Initial post:

Hi,

I’ve been struggling to keep track of my supplements, diet, sleep quality, symptoms, and how I’m feeling day-to-day to understand what affects what. Many times I’ve realized that I need to journal this kind of stuff and have even installed several apps—but all of them were way too complicated to use. With my lack of energy, I never even started using any of them.

Do you use any apps to help with this? If so, which ones would you recommend?

Thanks,
Vladimir

One of the reasons I’m asking is that I’m thinking of creating an app that would be really easy to use—voice notes for journaling, and then extracting all the helpful information.

Would be really great to hear some feedback from the community.

It would be great to hear any suggestions for features you’d like to see in an app like this to help manage the condition. I have my own personal list, but the more feedback I get, the more helpful the app will be.

Okay, I will share a little bit about how I envision it.

It will be a voice note-taking app. You can simply say something like, "I slept from 9 PM to 7 AM, woke up tired but feeling better than yesterday," or "Today, I started 1000 IU of D3," or "Had no energy until noon, but I’m feeling better now."

The system will then extract all the important factual information from these notes and provide clear and helpful analytics, such as: "Your sleep is improving this week. These are the most probable causes: starting D3 and eliminating milk from your diet."

I see. I was wondering if I could help out but I've never even heard of swift, so I guess not. Good luck with the project.
I appreciate that! The best way you could help is by sharing your thoughts on the general idea and what you would personally like to see in it. Feel free to share as much as you can, in any format that works for you.

TBH I wouldn't really use it, though I could see why others would. I just type up my notes in a text file on my computer.

I guess you'd need some kind of find feature like ctrl f as that's useful for searching back when you last took a drug for example.

Yes, everything will be 100% searchable.

I do type notes on my laptop too sometime but it quickly becomes very messy and unusable as I am too lazy (well, I believe it's not laziness but the side effect of CFS) to keep it neat.

Another reason for the app is that my iphone is always with me, and I can quickly record anything I want by simply pushing the Action Button and dictating. I know that all my voice notes will be saved in one place, well organized, searchable etc.

Sure, I get that. Well when it's ready I'll give it a try.

Maybe add a feature where you can add a text file, like I have got full off my notes, and it adds them as separate notes. Maybe each new line will equal a new note or something.

I really like this! Wow!
I can’t think of much else right now as my supplement tracking is the top thing I think. Oh, maybe a part of what I have available in my hall closet since im
100% bedbound and can’t lift my head to see what I have (this prevents me buying repeats as different friends family caregivers move things around etc).

Yes, it will work for that. You will just need to tell it how much stuff you have at the start, and then just use voice notes whenever you take something. The app will automatically keep the records

Wow, that would be amazing!
Will keep thinking on this of other things.

What about potential things I want to try? And timelines for that. Not sure if that makes sense.

I do keep spreadsheets of all my intakes and lab tests. After many years both got very huge. I'm not a programmer, so I don't see around entering values for having a long-term overview. I might be wrong?
