I thought this was interesting: a way to open the BBB for a few hours, which would allow the use of drugs that otherwise would be blocked. It's a preliminary discovery, so maybe there are serious drawbacks (maybe allows pathogens in too), but at least it's a step forward. I get the impression that there's a lot of research funding spent on figuring out how to modify a specific drug to cross the BBB, so this might solve that.
