Yeah I only went because the regular place was closed for 2 weeks and I was starting to really struggle. I went back to the regular place yesterday and am feeling better today but not as good as I normally do. It’s also my second day off doxycycline today. Hmm

Are you saying the effects were toning themselves down gradually from it all over 2 weeks? That is a long time! I'd be afraid to go that long without it now that I'm on more of a standard schedule with it now every couple days for a minute. I find that there is almost a 2-3 day cycling of benefits. Usually I experience them in my sensory systems and feeling of general "brain inflammation" for lack of a better description usually centered in the forehead, back of neck, top of head ect-. Some moments will be better than others and it appears to tie in with my usual immune dysfunction tying into the neurological presentation with up's and downs. I mean since you were coming down over 2 weeks though "things are happening" under the surface related for long stretches of time.

The effects were strong the first week. I felt amazing. Day 8 and 9 were still good, I just didn’t feel like superman lol. Day 10 and 11 I definitely noticed symptoms returning and my energy was considerably lower. Days 12-14 I was feeling ill again; inflammed congested feeling in my head, face, and neck, fatigue bad enough that I walked to the bathroom hunched over, joint pain, etc.

Maybe it lasts longer because I use a high powered full body machine for 30 minutes? Also my clinician says that her older clients don’t see the benefits last as long and need to come in 2-3 times a week whereas her younger clients (and I am 22) can usually get away with doing it less often even if they are initially very sick. Not sure how old you are but it seems to be an important variable.

That being said, once I figure out what exactly is benefiting me most, I do want to find a cheap home device so that I can use it between sessions. I pay $100 a week for my treatments currently so it isn’t feasible to go more often. Whether the device is RL/NIR or PEMF or something else is up in the air right now.

It could be. Mine is just small combo lamp, I find targeting specific areas is best for me and the effects can different depending on the area. I'm doing it at home, I don't actually go anywhere. I am feeling that right now from how much work I been doing recently on here and off. I need a break but tomorrows exposure in response to that should be interesting. It does consistently keep my senses much more clear and functional though my PEM appears to operate on really distinct mechanisms involving my immune system and neural pathways with some likely vascular dysfunction element to it. I am 10 years older than you too so that also probably up's how long I need to recover from ordinary things too in general.

Update.

Oh man. Day 9 off doxycycline and I am not doing too well. I feel quite sick. I feel simultaneously too hot and too cold like I have a fever, I haven’t had this in a while. My skin is starting to get worse. I’m scared but let’s not jump to conclusions just yet.

Fact: This past weekend, I spent 4 days at a friend’s place. I also drank 2 of those nights and my diet was much different.
Counter: When I was on doxycycline, I had some nights out drinking and being very active and got away with nothing more than a hangover.

Fact: When I was on doxycycline, there were times where I’d go long periods of time between PBM/PEMF treatments and I’d slowly start to feel sicker and sicker.

Fact: It has been 8 days since my last appointment, and before that, I had gone 14 days (the longest thus far).

Fact: I did just put my body through a lot in terms of activity, food, alcohol, and sleep dysregulation.

It’s unfortunate that my discontinuation of doxycycline coincided with less frequent appointments and this 4 day visit with a friend. I have a PBM/PEMF appointment on Sunday so I will hold off until at least them to see what happens. I plan on going to school and working minimal hours come September, so I am worried about that. I may consider restarting doxycycline depending on how things go. Perhaps at an even lower dose (e.g., 20mg a day instead of 40mg)?

Update.

Back on doxycycline. 20mg a day and it works alright. My PBM/PEMF appointments have been more frequent. Doxycycline seems to give me a baseline level of stability and PBM/PEMF gives me a surge of energy but only when I’m on doxycycline.

I have also discovered that anti inflammatories in general seem to help me a lot. Prednisolone 5mg gives me a ton of short lived energy. NSAIDs make me feel slightly clearer and more energized (I rarely take NSAIDs due to GI effects). I’m considering adding anti inflammatory supplements such as curcumin.

Edit: Dextromethorphan helps moderately but only works for a little while before it stops working if I take it too often
