Recommendations for testing in the UK for widest range of SNP's and MTHFR?

Hello,

I've been googling and found some UK companies that do testing but I've no idea if they're reputable or whether I'm missing better options. So i'd be grateful if any UK people could share their experiences/recommendations for genetic testing and perhaps with the widest range of gene's tested.

You ideally want whole genome sequencing. Dante might still do that. But it's expensive.

Otherwise the only one I've done and know of is 23andme. Which will get you about 3% of the genome. 23andme doesn't include all of the ones you might want to look up. But does include mthfr.

Thanks for the advice. I'm new to this, what does 'Whole Genome Sequencing' offer than regular SNP profiles do not?

I've been doing some googling and I think I'm getting my head around the differences. So..

Whole Genome Sequencing - is the whole genome
Whole Exome Sequencing - is around 2% of the whole genome, but is to do with the proteins that exert effects on the body
Genotyping (used for SNP arrays - like the one 23andMe use) - is targeted to known SNP's that can cause illness/disease.

At first glance, Whole Genome Sequencing seems the gold standard but I did read that the due to the Exome sequencing being much less in scope, it can go a greater depth to discover potential errors in the DNA.

Would appreciate any input on this from yourself or anyone who knows more about this. I feel like a fish out of water!

Yes 23andme is targeted for disease based SNP's but depending on how wide you want to go with your research it can miss some SNP's you want to check. WGS link here: https://us.dantelabs.com/products/whole-genome-sequencing

To be honest 23andme cost is neglible so there's no reason not to go down that route and if you want to go down the WGS route you can do that at another time.

As for reading SNP's and matching them to the relevant mutations I am a bit hopeless at this.

But once you've got your SNP's you can upload them to sites like https://geneticgenie.org/ which has a myriad of tools to auto diagnose conditions for you. Bare in mind a lot of us did genetic testing and I am not sure how useful it was long term, because even if you know what genes are faulty changing your diet/supps because of that is quite complex. Even so some people did do this successfully.
