Q: Is there research for ME/CFS onset?

Judging from social media, there seem to be a number of very typical ways in which ME/CFS manifests itself. Often starting with a viral infection (EBV of course, but there are reports of ME/CFS after SARS-1), but it's also known to start with exposure to toxic agents (FUME events, heavy metals etc.).

Is there any systematic research in that area? I've seen a lot of studies, but can't remember a single one that does this.
