Exercise 1 Hour a Day to Avoid Weight Gain
Women Who Maintain a Healthy Weight Get 60 Minutes a Day of Moderate Activity, Study Finds

By Kathleen Doheny
WebMD Health NewsReviewed by Laura J. Martin, MDMarch 23, 2010 -- Weight gain with age is common. But middle-aged women who start out at a healthy weight and get in an hour of moderate activity every day can avoid weight gain, according to a new study.

There is plenty of research on how to lose weight and keep it off, but ''there's very little research on preventing weight gain in the first place," says the study lead author, I-Min Lee, ScD, an associate epidemiologist at Brigham and Women's Hospital and associate professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School in Boston.

So her team addressed that question, trying to pinpoint the amount of physical activity needed to prevent weight gain over time, without calorie restriction, a question that is much debated with little consensus. The study is published in the Journal of the American Medical Association.

We are often told that we should try to exercise to keep our weight down, even by "CFS specialists" like Lucinda Bateman:

"Once metabolic syndrome is recognized, you can do the following: ... Develop a tolerable regimen of physical activity that will help prevent weight gain."

However, an awful lot of people with CFS are not going to be able to do this amount of activity.

It's just not true that you can control weight with moderate activities 60 min a day. It takes awful lot of intense exercise to burn enough calories even for healthy people. Absolutely no way for a CFS patients to control weight with activities. If you are worried about weight while having CFS, your only option is to stop eating like I have.
