New first time symptom: Ringing in ears.. Seriously? Why???

Ok, so I try to have a sense of humor with this disorder but really the LAST thing I needed was a new annoying symptom.

I hear a ringing in my ears.. is that tinnitus? I've also been suffering from cognitive issues... brain fog, forgetting, lost time.. are these related nuero symptoms?

What are the best theories about what causes the ringing?

Don't know why buy I have it on and off. I posted on another thread "psyching out tinnitus" what I've found that helps since it just started up. It may have something to do with viruses in my case.

This disease just keeps on giving.

I've had horrible tinnitus for a while now. My advice is when it gets really bad music help. I also listened to music while in sleep which I still do.

Try not about it which is hard but when I think about it it comes on. I know when you say try not to think about that you will still be think about it (contradictory statement) but just distract yourself. They say loud music (in headphone) makes tinnitus worse but it actually helps me as loud noises don't affect my cfs.
( I just realised after writing this that you actually wanted to know why but I'll leave that for anyone else lol)

It could be an ear infection which triggered mine of if I can remember correctly. I had a really bad one then tinnitus after it. It's likely not anything life threatening as far as I know. Tinnitus is quite common and usually goes after a while even though it may seem like forever. Mine started in March or so and ended a few months later but till get it on and of now.
Nearly all the time it is benign but is also related to hearing loss. That's why it is common in elderly. The likely hood of it being anything serious is very low but if you have hearing loss then you definitely need to get it checked out. That's all I know from the top only my head but you can go online and find more accurate stuff

I have it all the time, but I notice it is worse when I feel physically worse. Yes, it's another symptom. Ugh!

I learned recently that in Chinese medicine, tinnitus is related to weakness in the adrenal glands, and hence the kidney meridian. Interesting bit I am following through on, as I use Chinese theories and ideas including acupressure quite often with good results. This week, my goal is to stimulate all kidney points and see what happens with symptoms, especially tinnitus. So annoying.

Loss of hearing is related to low aldosterone, which is produced by the adrenal glands.

Hmm, do I see a pattern here?

Tinnitus, loud buzzing and ringing in both ears 24/7 as long been one of my me/cfs symptoms. It fluctuates in intensity with my flares and all the other neurological symptoms. I finally got used to it. Many, many things can cause tinnitus, but I always thought mine had to do with changes in cerebral blood perfusion......I dunno.

I've had it for over 30 years. I also have severe hyperacusis. Dr. Jamie Deckoff-Jones says those both may be caused by damage to the brain's gating system. The healthy brain is supposed to be able to ignore some input but if the gating is "broken" it lets in everything making you feel overwhelmed with stimulation.

Interesting guys, thanks so much. I also had EMF sensitivity not too long ago but that abated with using Lion's Mane mushroom. I'm wondering if ear ringing is a neuro symptom or "just an ear" thing (infection, inflammation, maybe blocked lymph glands..)

I do suffer from adrenal insuffeciency. I'm on 10mg of hydrocort per day.

While tinnitus is usually benign (according to those who don't have it), you should get checked out by an ear, nose, and throat specialist to be sure that it isn't something easily curable, such as a brain tumor.

Tinnitus is usually benign and the brain tumour associated with it is a very rare benign one. Other brain tumour are more common. I know your trying to help but please don't scaremonger people...

Sometimes, I don't really know if the main problem is EMF or Hyperacusis/Tinnitus, as both merge and give me a "frying brain". That's the case when facing for example one old and noisy air conditionning system from the neighbours.
I am very interested -Chilove- to know a little more about how you knocked your EMF sensitivity with Lion's Mane Mushrooms. It would be a real life saving for me those days if it could work...

Me too, I think mine started around the 10 year mark, when my me/cfs evolved into being more neurological.

Tinnitus can be several sounds you hear they are called phantom sounds such as ringing in the ears, chirping or cricket like sounds a long wind whistle sound or buzz.

I have been diagnosed with both Tinnitus and hyperacusis. Hyperacusis brings about cognitive issues such as dizziness, brain fog, disorientation, nausea, vomiting and yes even one to black out. When you feel the brain fog does it seem like you're just not comprehending everything you are taking in? Do you get an overwhelming feeling of maybe just wanting to hear one thing at a time?

Do you happen to have any links or article information that the doctor might have given you on this? I'd really like to hear more about this brain gating system the doctor told you about.
