Elderly men likely have several other potential drivers of inflammation.
Yes, this is likely.

Probably this is the reason why the investigated the Mn effect in elderly men, that the effect may show better up - which it did, as Mn caused elevation with about 50%, 50% and 30%.


The interesting question then is, what does it tell us in generel?

Elderly men having higher Mn intake and higher inflammation markers might not be causative. In respect to MnSOD, might be a failed adempt at self-medication? Would be more telling if they had tested Mn and MnSOD itself too.

It´s not on MnSOD specifically, the exact cause is probably not reasoned about (I havn´t read the paper yet).

Though I myself have begun to gather some lit about Mn and the immune system, and it clearly is an enhancer:

(and this probably for a reason, as this thread tried to reason. Reason would be, that Mn has tasks which are facultative directly or indirectly connected to wound healing, since early on from evolution.)


That correlation is not causation is true. But it´s difficult to see which other cause may account here.
