Lithium Orotate Experiences?

Would love to hear from folks who have taken lithium (orotate or aspartate — not the script lithium).

My docs and I are trying to get a handle on my severe depression and anxiety (largely driven by other neuro symptoms). We’ve tried many things in the “calming” category but have yet to find something that’s effective. Before we go down the SSRI route, I would love to hear from folks who have tried lithium and at what doses. Has it been effective for you?

It intrigues me after reading @Freddd s experience with it helping his B vitamin absorption. I did some research and it seems it raises serotonin, and lowers dopamine and (thereby) norepinephrine. My serotonin is VERY low, dopamine is also low but norepi is sky high. So lithium may be a partial fit for me.

Many articles on line suggest a 5 mg dosage (and I trie that years ago), but I was intrigued by Freddds comment that he went up to 20-30 mg. There are some folks on Reddit who appear to be using 15 plus mg / day.

My depression is at the suicidal level, so this is something that needs some pretty hefty intervention at this point. Thanks for any replies — this community is the best!

Thank you for all those posts... seems like there is a lot of history of folks here trying lithium. Hopefully some more recent experiences will find their way here. Cheers!

@Hoosierfans, it's a little off topic but I have recently read some reviews on Amazon that said people who took EPA only supplements got some relief from depression.

Recently, I ordered a bottle on eBay and am waiting on it but I took some fish oil supplements I had on hand which have EPA and DHA in the meantime.

I do notice a little boost in mood as well as softer skin. Plus, my brain inflammation seemed to reduce. I'm also feeling a little more motivated lately so I think it is helping with my neurotransmitters. Here is an webpage regarding that: https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2015/02/150225094109.htm

I haven't been able to take fish oil before this. It seemed to bog down my liver but now that I'm treating infections in my system, it's like my body is more able to use the nutrients. My hair is getting thicker and I have never had that happen before.

Anyway, hope you get some help for the depression.

One thing I seem to remember about lithium is that it can cause some type of diabetes insipitus though I don't know if that is just the RX form or the supplements as well. Just thought I'd mention that.

Judee — thank you so much! Yes, I have read that regarding EPA. Lots and lots of folks do VERY well on it for depression. Keep us posted! I do ok w fish oils ans have even been on some pretty high doses; it hasn’t helped me but I know so many people whom it has. 😊😊😊

Okay, one more idea.

I have a book by Julia somebody called Mood Cure. Through the years, I have tried some of the suggestions in her book and didn't get good results but lately I have been using D-Phenylalanine (DPA) because I am going through some heavy grief and she talks about that in her book.

It really does seem to perk up my mood somewhat. (I've even gotten a little giggly on it at times.) It's suppose to raise endorphin levels by breaking down the enzyme that would break the endorphins down. (Sorry, if that sounds confusing. At least, it does to me.)

She also talks about DLPA which also works the same plus is suppose to give some energy, but she says that causes some people to feel wired through the day and can cause insomnia.

I'm super sensitive and feel ever so slightly wired on the DPA as it is so I'll probably just stick with taking this one. Most things that are suppose to give energy don't with me anyway.

@Hoosierfans, just thought I'd mention it as well as that book in case any of it would be of help.

Oh sweetie, I'm sooooo sorry. It's a long, long journey, but it's not endless. It never really goes away, but it changes subtly thru time ....

Sending you a commiserative hug and many, many, " .... there, there's ....". I'd include some really good chocolate if I could .... will for the deed?:hug::hug::hug::hug::hug: ....

Hey Judee, I am so sorry too. When you mentioned:

. I know that phenylalanine converts to Tyrosine which converts to dopamine. So it may be the dopamine that is giving you the boost.
I am actually in the process of getting my aminos (including phenylalanine) tested and then trialing some Kuvan to see if it helps my body with the needed conversions.

There have been some people talking about Kuvan on PR at times. If you can let us know how it helps with the ME/CFS too, okay.

Thank you for that @YippeeKi YOW !! Gives me a sense of what to expect.:heart:
