I'd like to see a bit more evidence to be convinced of this. Seems if you're a psychiatrist you may be able to throw out all sorts of speculative theories and get coverage for them.
Soldiers suffering trauma report 'flashbacks', since the device became popular in film plots
CINEMA may have changed the nature of psychiatric disorders suffered by traumatised soldiers, according to a leading expert in the field.
Flashbacks have become a standard symptom of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) among modern soldiers, and the prevalence of flashbacks as a storytelling device in films is the most likely cause, according to Professor Simon Wessely, director of the King's Centre for Military Health Research at King's College London.
Professor Wessely, who argues that culture influences mental disorders, discovered that while war pension records of shellshocked soldiers in the First World War detailed a wide range of psychological problems, flashbacks were not among them.
etc.
