I have a fever for the first time in over two years!

This really surprises me. I studied OPs and carbamates years (pyridostigmine is one of the latter) ago and don't recall coming across any mention of the latter being found in nature.

Do you have a link to this info?

EDIT - I have done some searching and wonder whether you are thinking of physostigmine?

This highly-toxic compound is also mentioned here.

It would appear to be very far from a benign prebiotic!

@MeSci I tried to research this as well as spoke with a friend with a strong science background and there doesn't seem to be any basis or connection to Mestinon. I think the original poster must have gotten it confused with something else. Thank you for confirming this for me!

You're welcome. Cholinesterase inhibitors should not be taken lightly! The most dangerous forms are nerve gases. Mestinon is a cholinesterase inhibitor though - pyridostigmine - so it is related to physostigmine. Drugs with similar endings are usually related. Drugs are generally dangerous if taken at higher doses than recommended, and people with ME can of course have adverse effects at relatively low doses. The dose makes the poison, as it is said.

My GP was going to prescribe me 5 mg of nebivolol a day. I'm glad I persuaded him to give me a lower dose, as even that brought my heart-rate down to 54-55 at times.

By the way, I seem to have missed the word 'for' out of my message, and have edited it now for clarity.

EDIT

And now that my PEM is gone and I have had a good night's sleep, I realised that I meant 'years ago' and not 'for years' and have edited again.

Out of curiosity, was it an ME/CFS specialist who prescribed Mestinon or another doctor?

Hooray for fever :) Definitely a good sign, as the other users already stated. Wishing you the best in your way to recovery. Blessings

@Jammy88 fortunately (or unfortunately?) the low grade fever only lasted that one night and did not return. My temp stayed higher than my regular temp for the following day but would not be considered a fever in a normal person!

Thank you though for your good wishes and support. I really appreciate everyone's support in this thread (even though my fever was so short lived!). In any case, now that it is gone, I will be starting a new medication tomorrow as planned.

Sorry am having trouble quoting on my phone but trying to respond to @MeSci and @Sidereal. I only took 1/8 of a pill one time so it was about as low dose as possible!

I had read multiple current studies of using low dose Mestinon to raise low BP and help OI. Several people on PR take Mestinon to treat dysautonomia with no side effects so I inquired about it to both of my doctors and they thought it would be good to try. I just have side effects to every med possible that no one else seems to get!

ETA: I do think it is possible my fever was related to this med but I was still shocked b/c I had thought my body had lost the ability to have a fever (regardless of the cause.)
