How many have had success on the Andy Cutler Protocol?

Hi everyone, I am planning on doing the Andy Cutler protocol at some point. I have not read his book since it is so expensive, I have just been doing research online (and it seems that most people have a lot of success with it).

I am also wondering if anyone has done it without taking vitamin C, zinc, and vitamin E? I have major sensitivities to a lot of vitamins (mostly psychological) and I am hoping to do the protocol without these vitamins...

:)

Hi @appleblossom - I bought Cutler's book 7 or 8 years ago I think and it was around $15 or $20 - I can't believe what they've done to the price! That's too bad.

@caledonia knows a lot about Cutler's protocol. Here's a link to her blog page. It has a ton of information about methylation, as well as Cutler's protocol. Scroll down about 2/3 of the way and you'll see the information about Andy Cutler. You can tag her (or anyone) by putting the @ sign in front of their user name, like I just did, or like this: @Mary.

I tried Cutler's protocol and did not do well with it. I didn't seem to make any progress. Then through a series of fortunate happenstances I discovered that glycine, inositol and glutamine all helped me with detoxing. Glycine was especially potent, it caused a very strong detox reaction and I had to go very slowly with it. But eventually I was able to increase my dose. I rarely have detox symptoms any more, and used to have them at the drop of a hat. This article talks about phase II liver detoxification and mentions these 3 nutrients, as well as several others.

Thanks @Mary

Great info! I have also recently realized that I need to cover my bases before attempting any metal detox protocol. My plan is to try Hydroxy B12 and folinic acid since I can not tolerate the methylated forms. I have been trying to get adequate amounts of these nutrients through diet for the time being (lots of eggs, meat, and romaine basically). I’ve also been meaning to try lipsomal glutathione. I’ve calculated that I get about 700% of vitamin C through my diet so I wonder if I should bother supplementing with it for now?

I did not know that vitamin E was a cofactor for glutathione perixidase, I have been having trouble getting enough of this vitamin due to food intolerances. Looks like I’ll have to focus on that one.

I wonder if diet will be enough to support detox, I have very bad reactions to any herbs and have to stay away from them. They usually cause me to have intense anxiety..

I really don't know. There's debate about how much vitamin C we need. How much is the 700% you are taking? Some people advocate very high doses and others not so much. How's that for an answer! You can do a search for posts on vitamin C, or you might do a separate post just about vitamin C, trying to find the best dose. Are you working with any sort of practitioner on these issues?

I think you do need to educate yourself about safe detoxing. e.g., chlorella is often recommended for mercury and heavy metals and yet many cannot tolerate it - it can mobilize toxins and get them moving in the body and then they just resettle. It can actually be harmful.

As I said above, I found that glycine especially was very helpful for detoxing. I detoxed for years, I'd detox at the drop of a hat - anything that had "cleansing" properties (e.g., apple cider vinegar) would cause a detox reaction for me. 20 minutes in a far infrared sauna wiped me out for 3 days. And it never got easier, until several months after starting glycine, inositol and glutamine. I rarely get detox symptoms now, unless I have heavy exposure to something. So these 3 things are not herbs, 2 are amino acids and one (inositol) is considered a B vitamin. I don't know if others will benefit as much as I did from them, but if you do give any of them a try, start low and go slow until you see how you react.
