Some antiretroviral drugs (such as tenofovir) have been shown to inhibit HERV-K, which is an endogenous retrovirus there is some evidence may be active in ME/CFS.

This may explain why tenofovir is sometimes very helpful for ME/CFS in a subset of patients.


I am not sure if antiretroviral drugs will also work for HERV-W, but if they did, then perhaps drugs like tenofovir may help COVID and long COVID.
