I would say it is quite likely that something similar is happening in ME. Dr. Hornig said something about very low levels of serotonin being found in the short-term ME group, perhaps this ´tryptophan-derived product´ is also low in people with ME.

I found this video of Hornig talking about tryptophan, etc in ME (26.30-31.00):

She seems to be suggesting that the problem in people with ME is that a pro-inflammatory response is causing the serotonin pathway to become dysregulated.
