Are we willing to just sit by and let HHS slide this illness back 25 years or worse? I for one do not want anyone in the next generation to suffer like I have suffered without hope for the past 10 years. Some have suffered fro much more. is this the legacy that we are willing to leave our children?
Activists' strategy to get attention ultimately helped to change public opinion and create the political will to transform policies.
HIV?AIDS activists organized and engaged in civil disobedience to get the nation's attention. It was an all-out 'our bodies are on the line' exercise. Never before had this country seen thousands of sick people laying their bodies down on Wall Street. Or chaining themselves to the fence of the FDA. Ot storming the NIH. "You have to be able to inspire people at a level of civil disobedience," noted Jim Curran, M.D., who was then director of HIV/AIDS at the CDC.
