Genetic Study Finds Mitochondrial Link to Fibromyalgia

Apologies for telegrahic style. Was trying to keep word count down.

Includes my personal thoughts on well established racial disparities in health care. See the link for their discussion.

Genetic Study Finds Mitochondrial Link to Fibromyalgia

Powerful correlation between one specific mitochondrial DNA SNP and fibromyalgia. Mitochondrial DNA only inherited from mother.

Correlations also with other common chronic pain conditions including CFS/ME, migraine and IBS. More common in women than men. Much more common in African Americans than Euro Americans. Most common in African American women. Least common in Euro men. Aspect of blame. Often misunderstood and characterized as neuroticism or malingering. Racist health care disparity.
