EBV & CMV, Flu like symptoms??

Messages

I have been ill with flu like symptoms, slight hand shaking & a skin blushing/rash on most of my body including face. I have had this for 5 months now. No real fatigue, just feel the cold easily & them get a chill & shiver.

I have had So So many blood tests, I have has Herpes 2 for over 4 years & thought it was this at first, so more G.U.M. clinic tests & everything else negative but they gave me Aciclovir which I have been taking for 5 months with no improvement. More blood tests from Dr, then after a few more tests I got a positive results against V & recent CMV, & told antivirals do not work against these viruses & sent home, (Helpfull UK Doctors, Not) I read some have had success with Famvir or Valtrex?

Has anyone else had any of these symptoms for a long period of time, does this sound like, Post-Viral Fatigue Syndrome, Mono, chronic EBV, ME, CFS or something else????

Any help appreciated.

I can't speak to your symptoms, but I will say that any doctor who tells you that antivirals don't work against viruses should be locked up. Is it possible for you to get a second opinion. If you do have EBV and CMV there are antivirals that are effective against these.

I do read that some have had success with Famvir or Valtrex, I have asked a couple of times, & they keep saying they dont work. I have seen 2 different DR is the same surgery but they keep saying the same. The NHS is sometimes like talking to a brick wall.

Sorry just read this post - I would think you may be better trying acyclovir? It has good record with HSV 1 & 2.

Sorry I forgot to add that I have been on Aciclovir from the G.U.M Clinic for over 5 months for herpes suppression, but still feeling unwell. I have read that Famvir or Valtrax work better than Aciclovir, but Dr's say they dont????

There are plenty of people who here believe Famvir and Valtrex work better for them. I don't think doctor's should say "out of hand' it doesn't.

I am on acyclovir and having some results but if my newest labs warrant it, (I get results soon) I want to try either of those 2.

If you want to try them, push for it. If doc's won't rx them for you, you can still get them

Acyclovir and valacyclovir (Valtrex) are not very effective for active CMV and HHV6 infections. That may be what the docs are trying to tell you. It is not true that there are no antivirals for those viruses. Valcyte is considered effective for both, but is potentially risky and very expensive, which may be why the docs are not offering it to you. Kinda disgusting, that attitude, but pretty common.

There has been some talk about Famvir having a better impact on CMV and HHV6 than has yet been studied. It is documented to be effective for herpes zoster (chicken pox/shingles) and HSV-1 and HSV-2, so it might be well worth pushing your docs to try that for the HSV-2 infection since acyclovir isn't working well for you. If it also has some effect on your CMV, so much the better. :)

Been back to the Dr & he Refused point blank to try me on Famvir or any other antiviral because there are no clinical studies & he does not care about what I have read on blogs.

Help can anyone suggest any websites that I can buy Famvir without a prescription (I hear from india are the best)

Ugh. I understand what you are facing. I had an infectious disease "specialist" refuse to trest me for herpes viruses because the science was not completely settled. (Turned out my hhv6 was through the roof, but I had to pay for the tests myself)

Have you asked your doc to test for other viruses? If you are positive for other ones besides herpes 1 and 2, that may help changehis mind about treatment options. I am pretty sure valtrex is used widely in US for herpes 2. There must be studies on it, I would think.
