Hey everyone can I please remind you how important it is to send letters to Discover? This nationally distributed magazine can shine a light on our situation in a public way, and help take our situation beyond the "preaching to the choir" that exists on facebook and forums. Considering all the posts on fb and forums of a negative nature, please lets not pass up the opportunity we have here, to encourage more press and therefore pressure on our governments and research funding sources. See my earlier post / copy of the letter I sent, but yours does not have to be long at all. Even just a very quick "Thank you for publishing "Chasing the Shadow Virus" if that is all you can manage would be helpful, getting those letters is an influential event for the editor and publisher. Dear Discover Magazine,
I am writing to express my appreciation for "Chasing the Shadow Virus" in the March edition. The excellent journalistic skills of the highly respected author Hillary Johnson are evident. As one directly effected by the events outlined in this article, I found it very gratifying that a national audience is exposed to this story. Calling the illness "a devastating disease with a dismissive name" is very accurate.
This illness has disabled a family member of mine for over twelve years, since 2000. Long before the XMRV saga began in 2006, I clearly recall blood transfusions being one of the well known trigger events for the illness in some patients. Is the blood supply really safe? This clearly is a biomedical illness that needs investigation. I agree "this smells like a virus".
There are many more stories to be covered on this topic. In the last line of the story, Ms. Johnson refers to the "political never-never land", in which this illness has languished, the details of which would shock the average person. The degree of daily suffering among patients is astonishing, severe, and world-wide. The degree of political and medical neglect is even more scandalous.
Thank you again for covering this story, and it is my hope that more stories of this nature will be published by Discover. It is time for others beyond those experiencing this devastation to become aware of the tragedy taking place behind closed doors.

I would like to suggest that people write to Discover Magazine about the Hillary Johnson article, "Chasing the Shadow Virus" in the March edition, which is now for sale.

A good letter is as specific as possible, with comments like "I like the article because________, it was brave to assign this, thanks for objectivity, so well written, I especially liked the section where..." Thanking the editors for covering the story is also very helpful and important to do. Posting your letter on your own wall on facebook is a good idea too, and there is a Discover facebook page as well.
If the powers that be at Discover get a lot of emails, it will be an important event, and will add to the momentum of having this article published. As a community, let's not waste this opportunity. Imagine the effect if there are hundreds of letters from inside and outside the US about this story, it could well be an eye opening moment for those beyond our own isolated world. What if they decided to do another story on how medically neglected me/cfs has been? There are many more stories that could come out of this. We need to encourage more press. Feel free to share this post.
