I've read a couple of places that severe COVID is a form of sepsis (here's one link: Expert: Severe COVID-19 Illness Is Viral Sepsis | HealthLeaders Media )
I've also read about IV vitamin C, hydrocortisone and thiamine being beneficial in sepsis. I've seen studies attempting to replicate this, which showed no benefit. I think the jury is out on this treatment for sepsis but that it certainly deserves more investigation, and very well might be beneficial to severe COVID patients.
The following studies show some benefit for this treatment:
Hydrocortisone, Vitamin C, and Thiamine for the Treatment of Severe Sepsis and Septic Shock: A Retrospective Before-After Study - ScienceDirect
Vitamin C and Thiamine for Sepsis and Septic Shock - PubMed (nih.gov)
Hydrocortisone, Vitamin C, and Thiamine for the Treatment of Severe Sepsis and Septic Shock - CHEST (chestnet.org)
And the following show no benefit:
Effect of Vitamin C, Hydrocortisone, and Thiamine vs Hydrocortisone Alone on Time Alive and Free of Vasopressor Support Among Patients With Septic Shock: The VITAMINS Randomized Clinical Trial | Critical Care Medicine | JAMA | JAMA Network
Vitamin C, Hydrocortisone, and Thiamine for the Treatment of Severe Sepsis and Septic Shock: A Retrospective Analysis of Real-World Application (nih.gov)
