Cannabis and vascular inflammation

Sporadic use of cannabis seems to help relieve symptoms if I use it judiciously. However, I've read lots of recent studies on cannabis use that suggest it can cause stiffness in the arteries, atrial fibrillation and even strokes in otherwise healthy individuals ( which we are not).
Any views on this?

Just adding sth I was told by my immunologist: Cannabis use reawakens viruses… Forgot to ask him how and for further proof, but that’s what he told me when we were discussing test results. Without me telling him that I smoked he asked me because it seems like I have some active virus causing my body to react with inflammation.

there seem to be a number of studies suggesting the opposite.

I would generally agree.

my view is, likely everyone has a differing view on this, and decisions about it really are individual.

Its a tool in the human tool box. I have huge problems with eye inflammation and brain inflammation and it enables me to be able to see a bit, and think a bit. And helps me be able to get some nutrition.

I consider it the most effective medication I have for the ME.

But no, this isn't a perfect world and its not a perfect answer, but its something, versus nothing. I mean, the hospital nausea pill causes one's intestines to SHUT DOWN ENTIRELY. Is that a good side effect? I don't think it is. Nor does my GP.

So I wish everyone the best of luck in navigating rough waters.

thought I'd add one more comment.

So we all vary and in my case, I am a higher blood pressure type...with some OI and POTS. But I suspect mine is LESS intense due to this higher blood pressure version I have. So THC lowers my blood pressure QUITE a bit.

That suggests maybe its likely NOT causing arterial stiffness in my case.

Now this suggests that its possibly that it might make the POTSY thing a bit worse. And I think we have some studies of that...

I"ve been wanting to figure that out a bit more. Need to do some more home tilt tests.

Good question! I asked my Electrophysiologist about using Indica for sleep and other acute symptoms. She said fine, just not to overdo it. I already have Afib and it doesn’t seem to affect it at all and since electrophysiologist are the ones who treat Afib, she is probably the right type of doctor to ask.

Yes thanks for that. Been reading about that. Seems it's great for inflammation ( except in the vascular system) but weakens parts of the immune system whilst protecting against bacterial infection and dampening down an over excited suatem

I take a beta blocker and an ace inhibitor and yet cannabis improves my, excuse me for this, erections a lot. It's like Viagra. I honestly didn't need it but it's still very apparent the difference.
So yes, short term, seems to help elasticity, but also just concerned..more long term, although there is a vaso dilation at the time, over time the arteries stiffen?

I used to smoke it before bed most nights because it would greatly improve my sleep quality. One night while lying in bed out of nowhere I started to feel very odd and noticed my heart all of a sudden was beating so quickly I couldn't even discern between beats on my pulse, it just felt constant. It lasted about two minutes and then went away. I always wondered if it was A fib. Terrified me though so never smoked it since!

Yes, that's what scares me too. Shame cos the other effects are great

I'd been smoking it a few nights a week for like three years without an issue before, I guess it could have just been a random panic/anxious reaction to the strain I had and not Afib. I did notice I was feeling a lot more anxious than usual with the new stuff we got in.

I did a little Google just now and it doesn't seem to be particularly harmful in regards to AFib, might be worth trying to see if it helps? It's benefits are plentiful as long as you smoke in moderation.

It is pretty easy to tell if it is Afib as the beat is really irregular: beat, beat, beat, pause, beat etc. If you palpate your pulse in your wrist you should be able to easily feel it if it is Afib. A heart rate monitor averages beats so can’t distinguish Afib easily. Tachycardia is a regular but fast beat.

I think there are many studies showing now that it causes vascular inflammation which is smthg that I don't think is advisable for those of us with endothelial dysfunction.
I think I may use it as an occasional treat when I'm really rough

Cannabis is the only substance on earth that makes me feel truly alive and healthy.

But I pay a high price if I use it: a couple of days after consuming, I'm extremely lethargic and groggy. My head feels like a brick. And my sleep is horrible for several days.

I wonder if this is somehow related to vascular inflammation?

Yes, it's kinda similar for me.
Well there is deffo a blood pressure reduction for me, which is good.
But the downsides from what I've read, is that the vasculature becomes inflamed.
Also dormant viruses become active again. It seems to be good at killing bacteria but wiErdly, good at encouraging viruses to wake up. So that could be what you're feeling too

possibly a form of PEM? do you- overdo a bit? on the THC?

I can be alot more physical on THC. Stand longer, move around more, I get industrious.

Its listed as a PEM blocker...(here in PR).

My veins hurt if I do an edible for a few days after, that's what got me curious.
Then I was worried to see clinical studies backing it up.
The endocannabinoids deffo make me feel better, lower my BP, but then there's this hangover.
Maybe I'm just too sensitive for it. I guess everyone is different

This is very interesting. Can you point me to somewhere online that discusses the relationship between cannabis and the vasculature, and/or between cannabis and viruses? Thanks.

Yes, I may be overdoing it a bit. :)
I get industrious on it too.

I have to say, it seems like there's plenty of conflicting science.
It seems good with some illnesses and not others but seems to cause stroke in heavy users and viral reactivation.
I'm just saying what I found and wondered on other persons insights as it does have a beneficial effect apart from the veins hurting after
