Brain circuit linking physical and affective pain

"The researchers traced how pain signals move from the spinal cord to the brain in mice. They found that CGRP-expressing neurons in a group of brain cells that form the parvicellular subparafascicular thalamic nucleus (SPFp), in the thalamus, the brain’s central relay station, received pain signals and passed them along to parts of the brain involved in emotions, such as the amygdala."

"When the neurons were turned on artificially, the mice reacted with fear and avoidance, even when no pain was actually present." This part interests me, since I suffered from muscle aches that didn't seem to be caused by physical problems, and which were effectively blocked by LDN. The circuitry described is the sort of mechanism I was expecting to be involved.

Hi
Since birth and the time I can remember back to Present day, I dont feel pain like everyone else.
I may feel a dull sensation.
I have cleaned and stitched up deep lacerations myself.
Doctors are amazed when I tell them to skip the numbing shots and just get it stitched.
It's the same with bone fractures and broken fingers and ribs..
I have never had a large broken bone so i dont know how that would feel.
Broken ribs were only found during yearly xray check ups.
On my fingers if I noticed one or someone else notices one pointing at
At the wrong angle I just snatch it back into place and put a splint on it.
The only pain I have is when passing kidney stones. It is a wierd feeling!

somebody I know has a son who cannot feel pain....there was a name for it. I don't know many details as she rarely ever talked about it, but it was difficult for this child growing up.
When I got my first switch across the legs I thought hum and I did not respond like my sister had before so I thought real quick and acted like she did.
Thought i was super hero.
It actually helped me when I got spankins and paddled at school!
I always told the Principle Give me one more just to be safe Lol.
I never mentioned it to no one becaused I tuned it into a bennefit.
And latter I found out I was different.

I recall they had difficulties as the child did not understand that you can hurt somebody else. Since the child did not feel pain he sometimes hurt other people.

Hi
I can relate to that.
Kids that feel regular pain could try stuff that we can do.
Or if you are playing you might punch someone back harder than they punched you.
I have hurt people when I was young,
Mainly bullies picking on young kids
When it came down to a fight.
I dont know where you are from or if you ever heard of this but we would bet our lunch money on who could hold thier bare foot in a fire ants bed the longest !
Yeah we were pretty barbaric as kids.

Egad, you were raised by heathens ! (I'm kidding).

No fire ants in my area. Thank good ness I was spared. And if the neighbor kids were doing that, I'd have been spared, as my Mom would veto playing with the neighbor kids.

Parents were Great!
I was the heathen!
But I made it up in kindness protecting the innocent.
The other things I am not that proud of.
I felt that being different was my purpose to help others and in different ways.
Done it all my life.
It was a very interesting article Wishful posted.
