@Cohen2 -- I've never had NK cell function done, but I know that Klimas has found that the function is low, rather than necessarily the number of cells present. I believe others have found this as well, but who escapes me.

I saw an immunologist for my day-to-day care, rather than an infectious disease specialist. He was kind and helpful, as well as bright enough to get the gist as well as anyone does when looking at patients.

I could be totally off base with this but since I have been looking into neural modulation of the immune system I keep seeing things that make me go hmm. Below is a reference to research as to what is observed when there is a sympathetic nerve ganglion block:

Yokoyama M, Nakatsuk H, Itano Y. et al: Stellate ganglion block modifies the distribution of lymphocytes subsets and natural-killer cell activity. Anesthesiology 92:109-115, 2000.

I have very limited knowledge regarding CFS/ME; however, it seems an amped up or inflamed nervous system plays a roll. I would think this could also impact neural modulation of the immune system.

@JaimeS maybe you would know the answer to this... would the results of a NK cell test (count) and a CD57 test differ? I had my NK cell count (CD16=CD56) and my NK cell Function tested (my function is @ only 4!) but I keep seeing CD57 count being mentioned a lot. Wondering if it is a better marker for NK cell count than CD16+CD56 NK cell count?
