As the title suggests, it looks like Cambridge University researchers are honing in on using cytokines as a biological marker for diagnosing long-covid.

"A hyperactive immune response" is the same explanation noted down as the cause of my exertion intolerance by the Immunology NHS RFH fatigue clinic back in 2019. ME/CFS was also explained to me as being due to something likened to a "switch" that turns on and for some reason never switches off or never goes back to the baseline. I recently made a post about it alongside the diagram of the model the clinic used.
