In Austria that is the only place to with CFS. So I could indulge the diagnostic "art" of our "specialists", specifically Prof. C. Wolf.
Officially they do apply the so called "fukuda criteria" for their diagnostic process. Of course, in this version basically everyone fails to fulfill the inclusion criteria, as they will not believe your symptoms. At the time I got there I was already tested positive for a primary immune defect by the way. The next step however would be the diagnostic exclusion of a psychiatric disorder. Thus you are sent to the centers shrinkery. What they will not tell you is, that instead of following the procedure of diagnosis of exclusion, they sent a suspected diagnosis (schizophrenia and somatisation disorder) over to the psychiatrist. The shrink knows what to do, and within 10 minutes of talking he was already able to tell me that I was seriously mentally ill and it was all in my head.
Yet this diagnosis was to be confirmed by thorough psychological tests (lasting for a total of 8 hours). Those test results gave me an IQ of 145, and no what so ever mental disorder. Incidently the shrink himself was on vacation during these tests so he was probably unable to direct another outcome.
When he returned this test result did not bother him in any way and I was finally diagnosed with a schizoid personality disorder, somatisation disorder, unspecific mania and a few other disorders. He could also find out that my primary immune defect does not have any significance.
Then I was sent back to Prof. Wolf, who based on this serious mental condition was able to exclude the possibility of CFS. CFS of course would be a mental disorder in any way, according to Dr. Wolf. It's just that no one seems to have in Austria, which is close to a medical miracle...
