I've been an atheist for a long time - ever since I first heard that there was only a stairway to heaven.

Hers was one of your 'coming out' books. Remember those days back before you came out as a disabled woman? You used to spend a lot of energy on 'passing'. Pretending you were just like everyone else, that you didn't need any 'special treatment', that your life experience didn't mean anything in particular. It certainly didn't make you different from other people. Difference, as you knew it then, was a terrible thing. I used to think of myself in terms of who I'd be if I didn't have this pesky old disability.
Very sad. I have seen her on TV a few times over the years.

I think my first blog here discussed this very thing. So many can expend too much energy wearing the mask of normal. We shouldn't need to wear masks, or be coerced into wearing masks, we should just be us.
However, I also remember reading recently that Centrelink were giving her a very hard time about returning to the DSP.
Thank you for starting this thread @Sean
