"The brains of people with Alzheimer's show two hallmark signs, ‘plaques’ and ‘tangles’. Plaques are the build-up of sticky proteins called beta amyloid, and tangles are twisted strands of a protein called tau.
Researchers found that most immune cells stay the same with the onset of Alzheimer’s, but one type, called microglia start producing a molecule called CD11c which suppress the immune system and eats up the important brain protecting nutrient called arginine.
The molecule was found in the highest quantities in regions of the brain involved in memory and where neurons had died."

Oh my god, they're listing "statin-like drugs" in this article as a possible "prevention"? Statins, the real ones, have a decent amount of evidence of being linked to causing dementia, enough to spur articles in some major publications, in which authors write that more study is needed to evaluate whether statin drugs are a help or in fact a hindrance. (see article links below)

So if "statin-like drugs" are anything like actual "statin drugs", people who take them might trade alzheimers for dementia? Score for the horrid drug companies. Will they actually prove safety of these drugs before they foist them on an unsuspecting public?

Most medications already come with a degree of severe possible side effects, though they usually say it is extremely rare cases. Just watch any informercial on mood stabilizers, steroids, statins, or whatever other random things publicized on TV, magazines, etc.
