arginine query

Can arginine only replicate herpesviruses? I made myself ill with some kind of virus drinking alot of watermelon juice the last few days. I have a sinus infection and conjunctivitis. Could this be used as a diagnostic indicator? All these approaches to ME are new to me but so grateful I've found these forums after 10 yrs totally alone and in the dark. Just so overwhelmed with the prospect of seeing doctors at the moment and I don't think I could afford the testing I need. I know NO can also cause conjunctivitis symptoms.

I've always had extremely high ANA so I thought my problems were autoimmune but it's my current understanding that those could be from viral antibodies, could someone please clarify if that is correct?

What do you call extremely high ANA? If it's 1:640 or 1:1280, it's usually Lupus or a Lupus-like condition but if it's ridiculously high 1:2560, I think that's more to do with a viral cause.

Either way, when an ANA test is positive, other tests are required to identify which protein(s) the antibodies are attacking, have they also run an anti-dsDNA and ENA panel?

Do you know the pattern with your ANA result? Have a read of the posts in this thread for some more info on that point;

It says >1280, dense fine speckled. I'm currently waiting for results for anti-dsDNA and ENA (which I really had to push for). Doctors in the past have ruled out Lupus, but not sure I trust the reach of their investigations. I will take a look at the thread, thankyou.

I know from reading other forums that a1:1280 titre with DFS pattern can turn out to be Lupus and as I pointed out in the other thread, it's not uncommon to go for many years before Lupus is finally confirmed. Only time will tell I'm afraid.

Watermelon contains lycopene which in excess can cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, bloating, gas and indigestion. If I eat more than around two or three slices of watermelon, I find I get a mild stomach ache.

All of the antibodies so far have come back negative except for anticardiolipin.

This is another thing that can show up in Lupus but it can be that low to moderate levels of this antibody may occur temporarily due to an infection or drug.
