With my ME/CFS pain has never been a problem for me other than migraines
That is how mine was, back in the 1980s. They called fibromyalgia Polymyalgia, then. And I was still able to work; most of the time just felt like I had overdone it at the gym. So much worse, now. Funny how it hits different people in different ways!

I was diagnosed with ME or CFS/FM over 40 years ago.

We had little in the way of pain relief, but a well known drug called amitryptiline (for depression) was found to have beneficial effects. After that neurontin (gabapentin), lyrica and ?? followed.

I can attest that indeed, these drugs can and do have positive pain relief (for our pain, at least), and have been used in small doses ever since. Gabapentin was the big breakthrough and was used for many years, without exact dosages being known. Things have improved since that time. Many were anti-seizure meds that had been used for many years. Odd, as I developed two types of epilepsy in later years....nothing to do with the drugs at all.

Until then, I was often "locked" in my body and more or less bedridden. Non-movement doesn't help us, but it's hard to find the motivation to even change position when everything is aflame....and that's what it is, a burning pain and its most unpleasant.

In my case, it took gabapentin 3 mos. to truly work. A long time to wait, but the other choice was pain, pain, pain.....everywhere. I had lumps that acupressure could relieve, but found along the way, that our bodies don't like being touched too often. That helped, that knowledge that was found by accident.

This was a life-altering experience, at least as far as I was concerned. I'm sorry that your doctors haven't given you this most basic of pain relief. No, opioids do nothing for us at all. I can't say that all of my pain is gone, definitely not, but it helped considerably and I'll be forever grateful. Yours, Lenora

I am prescribed opioids and no, they don't do anything for this pain. I can only tolerate tiny doses anyway. If I take the full prescribed dose I might vomit. I wish there was an effective drug with absolutely no side effect; ain't gonna happen!
